         <description><![CDATA[<div><br></div><div>An expert learner is defined as:</div><div><br></div><div><strong>"one who is purposeful and motivated (the “why” of learning), resourceful and knowledgeable (the “what” of learning), and strategic and goal-directed (the “how” of learning)" </strong>(Meyer 16)</div><div><br></div><div>Anyone capable of developing the:</div><div><br></div><div><strong>*Motivation</strong></div><div><strong>*practice</strong></div><div><strong>*reflection</strong></div><div><strong>*self-efficacy</strong></div><div><strong>*self-regulation</strong></div><div><strong>*self-determination</strong></div><div><strong>*Executive functioning</strong></div><div><strong>*Comprehension</strong></div><div><br></div><div>and the <strong>situational awareness</strong> that help to make experts what they are is capable of becoming an expert learner!</div><div><br></div><div><strong><em>Designing for variability<br><br></em></strong>Every learner approaches tasks with his or her own set of strategies! Educators should provide those opportunities for differentiated instruction/tasks.<br><br><strong>Expert learners should know how to:</strong><br><br>-solve problems flexibly <br>-adapt or change course when mistakes are made<br>-fine-tune their own strategies for a even better performance<br><br>Learners with a growth mindset are <strong>self-aware and active learners.</strong></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Teachers need to be expert learners as well which includes <strong>continuously growing and changing.<br><br></strong>One of the most important parts of teaching includes:<br><strong><br>EXPOSING THEIR OWN LEARNING AND MAKING IT EXPLICIT IN BOTH ACTION AND PERSONAL REFLECTION.<br><br>Core qualities that expert teachers share:</strong><br><br>- planning for learner variability<br>-constant monitoring of student understanding<br>-changing course on the fly when necessary <br>-exposing some of their own vulnerabilities<br> -leaving themselves open to falter or fail<br>-model that taking risks is all a part of learning <br>-equipping students with the ability to self-regulate and to be aware of their own learning needs and preferences<br><br><strong>Expert teaching involves:</strong><br><br>-building engagement, knowledge, and strategies through a variety of tools and techniques<br><br>AND <br><br>-participating actively in the larger learning community with colleagues , families and administrators</div>]]></description>
