1.Main problems for speaking English in language classroom are; tendency to use mother tongue because it's easier for them and they have anxiety to talk in a correct way. There is a common belief that they should focus on problem or test solving instead of speaking tasks because they have university entrance exam.
What can be suggested: they can be told how or why speaking English in classroom is important. Group activities may be done to ease students.
2. The ideas and suggestions I have taken away from today's sessions can help to struggle with reluctancy to speak English that students have. Especially teacher's manner about planning and outline of lessons has importance.
For Differentiation:
preparation time
set words or phrases(try drilling at first)
providing an outline(it's both necessary for teacher and students. teacher may teach lesson easier and students would want to know what is going to be or where they're going.)
repetition of tasks(it improves quality)
Note: Eyes are stronger than ears so drills should be written on board after drilling.
Scaffolding
When the learning is scaffolded, students are constantly building on prior knowledge and forming associations among new information, concepts and language acquisition. Additionally, scaffolding presents opportunity for students to be successful before move into new territory.
Instruction Concept Checking Questions are also significant.
Early Finisher's Task
How are you going to monitor the activity(remotely, by making notes on errors...)
Students want to please the teacher so praising them& encouraging is important for post-activity(feedback on the task& language).
In real life speaking there is a lighter speaking tone and ad hoc interaction.
In conversation strategies; turn taking, start& ending, clarification are used.
the purpose of communication should achieve or resolve something. If it is more life-like and meaningful, it will work better.
Realia==> Feels Real==> Better Recall
Effective communication is %20 what you know, %80 how you feel.

pre-reading: students will talk about how they're experiencing climate change and what can be the reasons for climate change(firstly they'll discuss with their desk/groupmate then they'll share their ideas)
while-reading: fill the blanks with the suitable words from text.
1. The airline industry creates a lot of ........ .
2. It said the aviation industry has failed to reduce its ............ .
3. Murray also wants the government to make ........... like rail or ferries cheaper and easier to use.
post-reading: prepare a study such as short story, poem, (your study must include key words like climate change, carbon footprint, gas emissions etc. )

To make students read aloud in the class is not necessary as we think, neither does it help pronunciation. Naturally, we read silently. Also another point is there are some words that students do not need to understand. We lead our students what is important in the test. In sum, to me focusing context rather than just vocabulary is the lesson I learnt from today's session.

Focusing on process rather than product appeals to both student's academic development and manner. We shouldn't want them to be perfect in a minute yet keep the activity simpler considering student levels. Sometimes teacher may be impatient and prefer correcting student's mistakes immediately yet S/he should make them self-correct.
In a PDC meeting, English teachers would be interested in websites and applications used for writing skills. Technology makes writing easier and enjoyable both for teachers and students.

Implicit(deductive) teaching may be fruitful in aspect of focusing skills. At first controlled activities may work better yet during the process guided activities will be useful and according to student level
Concept checking questions should be prioritized because this kind of question is really effective to find out whether the students the meaning of the target language.
Personalizing and retrieving new words from memory are the best way for students while learning vocabulary. Personalizing makes a word have a unique place in mind and thus, learner may recall easily. Our brain is like a storeroom, if we put something(an information, a new word let's say) to brain and don't use for a long time, then we have difficulty to find where it is. It's the same for a new learnt word. If the learner retrieve the word that S/he learnt from memory often, this learning will be permanent.
To use vocabulary notebooks effectively, we may want students to use part of speech( word families), collocation and register in the notebook besides the meaning of word. We all know, learners need more than the meaning of a new word to be able to use it .

The biggest problem about assessment is giving feedback to students properly. Teachers mostly think there is too much learning outcome to teach at a time, so they cannot give enough feedback and that makes harder the situation.
Self assessment may help students acquire language in an intrinsic way and get into the habit of listening. Peer assessment may work among students from different levels. higher level ones may help to lower level students. And that can be time saving in classroom. Self assessment may be used outside of the classroom, we may want them to watch a specific series or listen a podcast in target language. Also we can change the series or podcast if they don't like it. Peer assessment may be used in class for the tasks that is difficult for teacher to check at once or for the students who are nervous or have low self- confidence, because they'll secure with their classmates and have no problem about being checked or corrected by them.
PDC Sessions
1. After graduating from university, teachers start working in field yet due to lack of practise in target language and also in service trainings, some skill deficits may be emerged in terms of teaching. In this sense, this PDC training is a golden opportunity for the teachers who want to update themselves both for skills and outcomes.
2. Professional Development Community project is a labor of hercules and requires continuous contact among facilitators or local groups. So, we can use the networks we established before, in order to inform participants when and where will the meeting be held? During the meeting we can use it to share materials etc. and after the meeting, we can use these networks to inform participants about forms that they are responsible for filling.
3. In PDC sessions we talk about in all its bearings. What is a PDC, how and why we hold these meetings etc. So we also discuss about potential problems or questions that we may have in our local PDC's.

As the course progresses, you become more analytical and selective about what you write. You are less descriptive and more reflective. This is much better in terms of referring to your own students and their needs. Liz.
