A formative assessment is a process that supplies teachers and students with in depth feedback concerning students literacy. It helps students to monitor their learning, develop as self sustaining learners, and also take responsibility for learning.

What are 3 formative assessment choices you would utilize in your classroom? Why would you use each?

The 3 formative assessment choices I would use in my classroom are hand in-pass out, visualize (be the illustrator), and doodle it. I would use the hand in-pass out to test understanding of smaller section units as I really like the idea of anonymously answering questions and grading others work as well so you really know each student is hearing the correct answers. I think the visualize (be the illustrator) would be really fun as well as a student can use their imagination and draw what they are understanding of a story as the teacher is reading. Lastly, I thought doodle it was a fun way to get feedback from students instead of having them write down to check for understanding.

How is this similar or different from what you have learned in other classes?

It is different from what I have learned in other classes as I remember in class we would normally use a lot of writing on sticky notes or just being asked in front of the whole class if we had questions to check for understanding instead of more activity based formative assessments. It is important to incorporate different formative assessments into the school year as it allows the teacher and students to have a better understanding of what was processed and in different forms.
