Hinton's book, The Outsiders, has brought tons of new characters into the reading world. Ponyboy, the narrator, has two brothers and some amazing friends. Maybe not by themselves, but together, they can achieve almost anything. Sodapop, Pony's brother, dropped out of school and got a job at a gas station, and he is apparently a huge catch to all the girls. Darry is the oldest brother, skipped collage to take care of Soda and Pony after their parents passed away. The rest of the characters are rather minor, except for Johnny. Johnny is a boy, abused by his father, and sadly dies at the end of the book. But only because he saved children from a fire in an old, abandoned church.
