my call to adventure

In the call to adventure, the hero, me, receives notice from an outside force that they must go on a journey. At first the hero refuses the call, just like I did when I didn't want to go to high school. But the hero must also accept the quest, which I also did when I was eager to start.

On June 11, 2014, I promoted from 8th grade. When I walked across the stage and received my certificate, I knew San Marcos High School was my next step. At first I was regretting leaving San Elijo and didn't want to move on. This is like the refusal of the call which occurs in the call to action. But I soon realized that I was excited to start something new!

The first day of school had finally approached and I was both nervous and excited. I drove to school with my carpool and we walked in. The school was busy and loud. The moment I walked through the black gates, I knew I was going to like it here. We walked across the quad to get our schedules and the journey began.

In the crossing of the threshold, the hero steps from the known world to the unknown world. I achieved this when I walked past the front gates into what we call high school. I didn't know what to expect, much like the hero when they partake in their quests.

The semester was almost over. All I had left was the dreaded finals week. I had gone through much preparation and I knew that this was the time to work extra hard. It was definitely the hardest part of the semester. After the tests I felt more an more confident. I knew that my hard work had payed off.

The abyss is the darkest hour in the hero's journey. It is the climax of the story. Finals week is like the climax of the semester. It's the big step which may determine our grade. During finals, I had a revelation that if I study and work hard I will succeed!

After I completed all of my finals, I had become a lot more self-assured. I transformed into a wiser, more knowledgeable version of myself. Throughout the semester I noticed that all of the challenges and difficult assignments had payed off

Along the path of the hero's journey, the hero transforms and has new realizations about their capabilities. I underwent the same type of transformation in my personal experience. Although my education was what transformed for me.

dorothy's call to adventure

Dorothy and her family experience a tornado, which is dorothy's call to adventure. It is sort of like a blessing in disguise because she doesn't realize it is a call until she get's further into her quest. Similar to my call to adventure she first refuses to go on her journey, which is following the yellow brick road. But then she accepts it because she sees that it's her only way home.

In the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy travels through a door which takes her from her house into the unknown which is known as munchkin land. In the movie, the threshold is very obvious because the color of the film changes from black and white to color. My threshold was also a distinct change from known to unknown. This means our experiences show the part of the hero's journey that is known as crossing the threshold.

dorothy's abyss

In the Wizard of Oz, the abyss is when she comes face to face with the wicked witch of the west. She gets captured by the flying monkeys and is almost killed. She then pours a bucket of water on the witch and the witch melts. This part in the story relates to my abyss because I tackled finals just like she tackled the witch. Both my abyss and dorothy's abyss are also the darkest parts in our journeys

dorothy's transformation

After dorothy faces the abyss the only thing she needs to do is get home to Kansas. She eventually realizes that she could have gone home the whole time if she had just thought about how much she loved and appreciated her family. Her transformation was the way she thought about things, like family and relatives. This relates to my transformation because I also had a change in heart but my transformation was about how I feel about myself and howI have grown.
