The Trans Atlantic Slave Trade destroyed African societies and held back their development. Europeans "needed" people to do hard labor in tropical weather. Africans were also immune to European and tropical diseases. The very origins of racism.

November 16, 1532- The fall of the Incas

1549- Portuguese missionaries arrive in Japan

Catholic missionaries arrive in Japan and begin to spread Christianity. The population of Christians among the Japanese "by 1600, the beginning of the Tokugawa Shogunate, there were around 300,000 believers."(Nottage). This is the beginning of the Shogunate's worries about the European influence.

1542- Encomienda system is abolished

The Encomienda System was a set of "rules" that Europeans were expected to follow to "protect Natives". In reality it was just the enslavement of Native Americans. While the people of Spain became angry about the mistreatment of Natives, they could only to so much from far away. They attempted to make things better by changing the laws but Natives continued to die and suffer.

1494-The Spanish find gold in America
