         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>My basic core beliefs about students and their ability to achieve<br></strong><br></div><div><strong>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; </strong>In accordance with the ASCA Mindsets, I believe all students can succeed (M 1).&nbsp; Their success, whether social or academic, should be measurable using a comprehensive school counseling&nbsp;program (M 4).&nbsp; Upon graduation, every student should be prepared and able to achieve personal postsecondary goals (M 2/3), (American School Counselor Association, 2019). Students who know an adult has confidence and believes in them will be more willing to accomplish their goals.&nbsp; Often school is the only place they have someone who cares for their well-being and future. Building a therapeutic relationship with students is essential.<br><br></div><div><strong>School counselor’s role as an advocate for every student<br></strong><br></div><div><strong>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; </strong>School counselors are responsible for the overall well-being of every student.&nbsp; Taking on the position of a school counselor creates many roles.&nbsp; Making sure each student is reached is a number one goal.&nbsp; As a school counselor, properly understanding how culture and a student's environment can affect their lives is a necessary part of the job (B-PF 6). &nbsp;Collaboration with families and school staff, planning and assessing the school counseling program’s strengths and weaknesses (B-SS 5), and meeting the student’s ever-changing needs are essential parts of being an advocate for every student (American School Counselor Association, 2019). As a school counselor planning and using resources within the district can help achieve the common goal of reaching every student.&nbsp; Currently, I work in an elementary school of about 600 students. Therefore planning, researching, and implementation will play a significant role in the success of this task.<br><br></div><div><strong>Future School Counseling Program<br></strong><br></div><div>The ethical standards set forth by ASCA provide school counselors with the knowledge and skills to efficiently reach all students and meet their diverse needs.&nbsp; They create limits and help set goals for school counselors taking into consideration parents, students, guardians, school staff, and themselves. I plan to use this information and create a program within my school that will encompass all professional standards and competencies. My program will ensure all student’s needs are met academically and socially and they are prepared for postsecondary opportunities (American School Counseling Association, 2019).<br><br></div><div><strong>Vision Statement<br></strong><br></div><div>Church Point Elementary students are successful lifelong learners and leaders who adequately navigate life using the academic and social skills acquired through our comprehensive school counseling program.&nbsp; They effectively and sufficiently fulfill their responsibilities to contribute to a socially just society while remaining loyal and open-minded individuals.<br><br></div><div><strong>References<br></strong><br></div><div>American School Counselor Association.
