         <description><![CDATA[<div>Technological Advances<br>Laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures have replaced many open surgeries. Laparoscopic which consists of being performed through a small opening in the abdomen, results in: less trauma to tissue, less inflammatory response and therefore less pain and a faster recovery.&nbsp;<br><br>Medical Robots: provide a key to less invasive, less traumatic surgeries. Has rock steady hands. Faster healing, less pain,&nbsp; and less scarring.<br><br>Suffixes<br>ectomy- cutting out or off<br>lysis- removal or destruction<br>oma- Tumor<br>ostomy- to furnish with an outlet<br>otomy- cutting into<br>plasty- revision, molding, or repair of tissue<br>pexy- fixation, anchoring in place<br><br>Reasons for surgery:<br>Diagnostic- to determine origin and cause of disorder or cell type for cancer<br>Curative- resolve a problem by repair or removal<br>Restorative- improve a pt's functional ability<br>Palliative- relieve symptoms of disease, but doesn't cure.<br>Cosmetic- performed primarily to alter or enhance personal appearance (insurance does not cover usually)<br><br><br></div>]]></description>
