         <description><![CDATA[<div>Element 1: Colour <br>Within Matisse’s piece, colour has been used to create a <del>dull and</del> flat image, where the cool and warm colours have worked together to create an aesthetically appealing image. Matisse’s artwork has used the impressionist style, that uses saturated colours to expose the primary and secondary colour palette. The canary yellow and orange have contrasted against marine blue and phalo green, as the warm colours oppose from the cool colours. The artist has done this by using applying thin and flat layers of gouache paint., that holds a flat appearance.&nbsp;<br>Element 2: Shape&nbsp;<br>Within Matisse’s piece, shape has been created by forming the colours into 2 dimensional geometric shapes. Matisse’s choice in creating all the geometric shapes to be horizontal or vertical, as left the diagonal lines, as the focus point. These diagonal shapes allow the viewers eyes to work around the composition, This movement has made the viewers eyes run down the diagonal line to the bottom right corner, and the works around in a clock wise motion.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Matisse takes on an impressionist style through the use of art elements such as colour and shape. We see bright colours such as yellow, blue, green and pink. These colours look inspired by a beach setting and create a warm and relaxed feeling.The styling of the colour is created through the use of gouache paint. Gouache is a designer paint which holds a flat appearance. The colours have been applied in layers to create hierarchy within the composition. Also depicted in the artwork is the element of shape which is used organically and geometrically. Rectangular shape is used along with free flowing shapes that employ a variety of curves. The use of shape in the composition creates a sense of balance through the artwork.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>aesthetic quality 1; shape<br>Within Henri Matisse's artwork, he dominantly uses aesthetic qualities throughout the composition by using a combination of geometric and organic shapes to interpret an impressionist and distinctive style. Within the artwork, the artist interprets a range of shapes to generate the viewers eye in a number of areas within the picture-plane which emphasise a sense of movement by repeating the shapes in an a-symetrical composition. By these shapes being placed in random areas within the artwork, it creates an open and spacious area within the artwork which makes it appear to be precise and clean. These shapes also create a positive and negative space within the arrangement of the artwork.<br><br>aesthetic quality 2; colour<br>Further to this, the artist also engages combinations of cool and warm colours such as magenta, blue, green and yellow to emphasise and expose the basic primary pallets which creates the moods and emotions depicted within the picture-plane. By the colours chosen, it may interest the viewers perception to have a relaxing and pure mood as this artwork is very care-free. These colour combinations have been applied onto the surface by creating a flat base, the artist has used gauche to interpret a bold but yet toneless appearance to create emphasis, this is evident within the artwork as he has applied a pure and light background colour (beige) so the objects can create a focal point to the viewers.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In Herni Matisse’s “Memory of Oceania” a gouche on paper, cut and pasted, and charcoal mounted on canvas the 284.4 x 286.4 is executed using a vast array of art elements including line and shape. Sporadic, organic line draws the two divisions of the work together and allows the artwork to flow from one end to the other. As well as the individual lines, lines also form the basis of the shapes and work to contain and contrast the colors on top of one another. Some lines being straight and simple. Shape is constructed by line and a dramatic change in color and tone. The shapes are two dimensional and some can be described as sold whilst others form an organic outline which works to balance out the piece.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Henri Matisse’s collage using gouache on paper, <em>Memory of Oceania</em>, 1952-1953 shows impressionism through the use of shape and colour throughout the entire frame.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The repetition of geometric shapes combined with organic shapes develops a sense of movement across the composition, leading the eye diagonally from the bottom right corner to the top left. The positioning of the shapes creates a balance of positive and negative space, evoking a sense of spaciousness and an open environment.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Additionally, colour a predominant element within the collage, combining contrasting greens, blues and magentas. The vivid colours, in particular the burnt yellow and the muted royal blue, are emphasized and made the focal point due to the dull beige background, allowing each colour to be singled out and not merge with another. Furthermore the beige background maintains equilibrium throughout the piece, making the artwork feel light and nonchalant. &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Element 1: Colour<br></strong><br></div><div>Henri Matisse’s, ‘Memory of Oceania’ employs flat, saturated colours, including vibrant magenta and mustard yellow with medium Persian blues and phalo green. His combination of bold, multicoloured figures emphasises his abstract expressionism style. Matisse’s use of colour conveys an overall playful mood highlighted by his unsystematic composition of different shapes. By using a variety of bright colours and shapes, there is no single focal point in the piece. Rather the viewer is drawn to the image as a whole, establishing unity and a sense of connectedness in the gouache work on paper.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>Element 2: Shape<br></strong><br></div><div>Henri Matisse’s, ’Memory of Oceania’ does not include three dimensional rendering to create form, rather a juxtaposition of 2D geometric and organic shapes. Through employing organic shapes in conjunction with a rich colour palette, Matisse creates an overall energetic and spritely feeling in his artwork. His abstract expressionism style is categorised by the use of non-representative shapes and figures which contributes to a nonconventional and refreshing image.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
