The use of both virtual and human patient simulators is becoming increasingly popular in the world of nursing education. Educators and students are finding advantages and disadvantages to this style of learning, which has created opportunites in more recent years for face-to-face lecture instruction to be partially replaced by computer simulation.

Simulations cannot completely mimick a real human being, therefore, students may not focus in on details, such as skin color, in a real life situation when assessing a patient.

When practicing high-fidelity training, which allows for fewer mistakes to be made, students may experience higher levels of mental strain, in turn leading to frustration and increased risk of incompletion of the course (Kim, 2016).

Can simulation be used in distance learning courses?

Simulation is a great choice for students participating in distance learning programs, providing an additional form of patient interaction that may otherwise be difficult to find when real-life clinical experience isn't an option. Dangerous hypothetical situations can also be provided, which may be too risky to practice in an actual clinical setting as a student. Simulations can help students use critical-thinking skills and provide feedback afterwards to understand the scenario.

Full Code - Emergency Medicine: This app uses high-fidelity training scenarios that are commonly experienced in the Emergency Department. This app allows students to virtually resuscitate a critical patient, order pertinent labs and imaging, administer drugs, and determine a final diagnosis. A score is given based off of six competencies, and students have the opportunity to repeat the scenario as many times as they'd like with debrief notes and Q/A sessions.

Nursing Sim - This app is a mobile game that will aid in one's leadership and management skills, an important skill needed for every nurse when juggling patient assignments. Students will determine patient acuity, recognize nursing competency on the unit, and delegate patient assignments for each shift.

Padlet software was ideal for this assignment because it was completely free for a basic program, and it was very easy to sign in using my Facebook login. It was fairly easy to navigate around the choices available regarding template and other available designs. However, there were very limited designs to choose from, and many of the templates seemed very choppy, requiring several text boxes to be placed throughout the document that could not be seen in full-screen mode.
