These things are different from usual societal norms. Women back in the 20s would wear long dresses and it was not excepted for them to wear short hair. There was a debate in magazines such as "pictorial review" and "Ladies Home Journal" that presented its readers with the debate " to bob or not to bob" It covered women with bobbed hair and also people that believed women should not bob their hair. In North Carolina opponents of women's suffrage or voting said that Women are not on the same level as men mentally, therefore giving them the right to vote was a bad idea. People said it would be taking women out of their proper sphere of life. Slowly women started getting more political and by the end of the decade women were represented in local, state, and national political committees. With women representatives more attention was put on social improvement, such as protective laws for child labor and prision reform. Despite this the goal for most young women was marriage. Working for wages gave women new independence and by 1930 one in four women held a paying job. Many women had started work during the war to provide for their families. When soldiers would come back injured they had to continue working and doing housework. Getting more rights such as more pay and equal hours in the workplace helped women as the continued to work. During this time women were fighting for rights in education. In the article Evils of Women Revolt Against Old Standards, It says that the world needs educated women and men and we should educate the future of our homes.
