Since 2004, Darfur has been the site of genocide and is still going on. Residents of Darfur are getting attacked by a group called the Janjaweed. More than 100 people have been killed and women are being raped in front of their fathers. Their fathers are then getting killed. Boys and men are being killed in mass and agriculture and villages are getting destroyed. Also, 350 girls have been abducted.

Non-Arab ethnic groups had an uprising against the Khartoum government. The groups didn’t agree with the Khartoum government so they started to attack the people of Khartoum and Darfur. The Sudanese government hasn’t done anything to stop the issue in Darfur. The Sudanese government supports and gives weapons to the Janjaweed. The government hasn’t stopped the violence and will not anytime soon.

The International Criminal Court filed charges against the Sudanese president, Omar Al Bashir, for the violence in Darfur. The Sudanese government has been supporting the groups attacking Darfur and the president has been charged for it. When the genocide had first started, many international groups decided if whether or not the genocide should be called a genocide. The groups eventually decided that the war going on in Darfur was officially a genocide. Also, in April of 2004, the African Union initiated a ceasefire with the Sudanese government, their allies, the Janjaweed and the Sudanese Liberation Army. The ceasefire went unobserved but the violence kept going on.

D) Why should the rest of the world be concerned about this issue?

I think the world should be concerned about Darfur because there should be peace in the world. The rest of the world should be concerned because this violence can spread to the rest of Sudan and spread through Africa. The Darfur genocide is concerning because the Janjaweed is terrorist group and most terrorist groups come to America. Remember 9/11? The genocide can get worse and worse and if everyone in Darfur is dead, the janjaweed will want to go somewhere else. International groups should help Darfur and the US should send some military groups to Darfur so this violence can stop. In April of 2004, the African Union tried to help but the violence is still going on today.

In 2008, the Sudanese president was charged for his role in the Darfur genocide. He has been supporting the terrorists groups in Darfur. For example, the Sudanese government has been giving weapons to the Janjaweed, a group of terrorists in Darfur. Also, the National Islamic Front, was refused to control very violent Arab militia raids in Darfur. The Human Rights Watch obtained in 2004, confidential Sudanese documents that say that the Sudanese government support the Janjaweed. It hasn’t been stopped but it was supported by government officials in Sudan.

Compare and Contrast of Anne Frank and Darfur Genocides.

The difference between the genocide in the Netherlands taking place during Anne Frank’s time is different from the genocide going in Darfur, is that during the Holocaust, Jews like Anne Frank and her family were being killed, not everyone in Germany. But for Darfur, it doesn’t matter which religion or ethnicity you are, everyone in Darfur are getting killed. For Anne Frank, she got killed because she was Jewish, but in Darfur, its just people who are residents of Darfur. Also, the rest of Sudan hasn’t been involved but for Germany, it was Jews who lived in all of Germany. In Darfur, women are getting raped and killed but in Germany, people were only getting killed, nothing else. Also, civilians of Darfur aren’t being taken to concentration camps like the Jews in Germany.
