The museum had been set up by former Medellin Cartel accountant and the drug lord’s brother, Roberto Escobar, in the west of the city in an attempt to capitalize on a growing stream of tourists who want to know more about the city’s most infamous resident in history.

Colombia is the second most biodiverse country on the planet after Brazil. However, the country’s decades-long conflict has long impeded the scientific exploration of much of the country’s territory.

So far, biologists and other scientists have registered 1,889 bird species, 4,000 kinds of orchids, 2,000 fish species, 3,000 butterfly species and 456 species of mammals. But there could be many more.

The situation in the once peaceful fishing village of 3,000 has become so bad that disturbing reports of child exploitation and human trafficking are now emerging.
The town hit national headlines after a former Israeli soldier and local hotelier was expelled from the country for allegedly providing drugs and prostitutes to travelers.

Since then, local and regional authorities are trying to retake control over the village that could be a tourism hotspot if it is able to regulate drug use and prostitution.
Before Taganga became flooded with backpackers, it was a quiet fishing village originally inhabited by the indigenous Tairona people.

Initially cut off from the important colonial city of Santa Marta, the picturesque bay was always known and visited by Colombians for a bit of R&R.

Some of these places are the stomping grounds of prostitutes and drug addicts; others are where pickpockets and thieves congregate, or the places embroiled in gang-related violence. There are also places that are blatant tourist traps simply not worth the bother.
Colombia Reports determined the no-go areas based on warnings by the Ombudsman and visits to these neighborhoods.

The remaining levels of caution should not be interpreted as a travel warning, but rather an invitation to explore the city with the appropriate caution.

Bowers had made many anti-Semitic posts online, including one early on Saturday. In another, he slammed U.S. President Donald Trump for doing nothing to stop an “infestation” of the United States by Jews.

Jones said Bowers was armed with an assault rifle and three handguns. He said authorities believed the suspect entered the synagogue, murdered the worshippers and was leaving when he encountered a uniformed police officer. The pair exchanged gunfire, Jones said, and Bowers reentered the building before a SWAT team arrived. After a shootout, he surrendered.

Bowers was taken to a hospital where he was listed in fair condition with multiple gunshot wounds. Victims taken to area hospitals included a 61-year-old woman, a 70-year-old man, and a 55-year-old officer. No children were killed, authorities said.

Three police officers were shot and one was injured by shrapnel, authorities said. Two of the six people injured were in critical condition.
