A fave memory :) This was taken maaany years ago! As an ex-horse owner I was really into riding, so on this particular trip to Europe with my friends, I stayed on so I could have a week of dressage lessons at the Lipica stud farm in Slovenia, on the Lipizzaners, then viewing a performance at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna.

Loved every sec of it, even though my stern German instructor was a bit scary. And my horse Pluto bolted around the arena on day 4 :D

Midnight mountaineer! It's 1979. I'm a 19 year old junior naval officer at the summit of 4,000 ft Mt Henderson, 12 Km inland from Casey Station, (behind me in the photo on the coast) having 'sailed' aboard the Danish ice-strengthened ship NANOK S to learn high latitude celestial navigation. I love this photo. I still have youth on my side and my travels in life have only just begun.

In the early 1980's I went onto the old silk route in the Thar desert in Rajhanstan. I was suppose to fly to Jodpur, then catch a train from Jodphur to Jaiselmeer, where I was to stay in the ancient walled fort. Along the way, I was to join a Camel truck, for 3 nights, to enter Jaiselmeer. India being India, I was put on a bus to travel to Jodpor, stopping at Jaipur along the way for lunch. I believe the tourist Company and pocketed the airfare. There is a big Indian Army base at Jodpur. The local tourist guide was a retired Indian Army major, so he pocketed the hotel accommodation money, and I went to his place, met his family, played Boney M records with his educated School Teacher Daughter. After that the whole trip was a tragedy, as I missed the train, put on a bus, and journeyed to the outer reaches of the desert. However, it was the best Holiday, that I have ever had. Everything was upside down, the tour company lost track of me, eventually the local Prince found me, and I continued my adventure. Too many stories to tell, but the underlying message was that the unexpected Journeys, can turn into a very rewarding and insightful experiences

Trieste has been by far the most beautiful city I've ever visited. It topped Milano, Salamanca, Munich, Madrid and many other amazing cities for me. The crossover of Italian, Croatian, Slovenian and Serbian culture is something I didn't expect but I found astonishing. I would recommend visiting the Saint Spyridon Temple, one of the most beautiful churches I've ever visited.

Milano will always hold a special place in my heart. At the time, I still lived in Ljubljana and was in a long-distance relationship. By chance, she had an opportunity to visit Milano which isn't that far or expensive to travel to from where I was, and we haven't seen each other in months. With a spare change in my pocket after working as a post man for the day, I bought a ticket and went out, sleeping on the midnight bus all excited to surprise her, as she didn't know I was coming. Little to say, she was very happy to see me, and I her :)

Belgrade is just a three-hour drive from where I live. For anyone outside of Serbia, it’s a must-see. It’s the beating heart of the Balkans. Alive with history, energy, and everything there is to offer. The most important visit in my honest opinion would be the Temple of Sveti Sava, one of the largest Orthodox Churches in the world. It's interior is designed as a tribute to Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, former Constantinople.
