I’m the daughter of a Holocaust survivor. My late mum had a horrendous time in the War in her birthplace Poland and during the last 20 years of her life she started to tell her story to schools, religious centres and youth groups. She was awarded the Freedom of the City of London and a British Empire Medal for her work on Holocaust education and community cohesion. In her last couple of years I tried to help her tell her story. I promised her that I would try to continue her work.

As we all know family, work and life get in the way and there was never the time. Then lockdown happened and I joined an organisation called Generation2Generation who help the children and grandchildren of survivors to tell their family’s story. You are given a mentor and some training in research skills, reflective practice etc and so I designed the presentation - which contains testimony from My mum from interviews she did with the Shoah Foundation (an organisation that Stephen Spielberg founded after he made “Sophie’s Choice”),it also contains photos and I have given the presentation about half a dozen times online; to a school, two universities, a synagogue etc. I am now a speaker for Generation2Generation and have my first live presentation at a school in May.

To have put the presentation together finally is my best lockdown achievement as I feel it honours my mum’s family - not one of whom survived the war. I hope this memory isn’t too serious - I have also done some very silly/fun things in lockdown!
