Netiquette is essentially exactly what you'd expect it to mean - etiquette (having good behavior) on the internet. It's basically the guidelines of what's appropriate on the internet and what's not. It's something very important for people to consider, especially in today's society since everyone is wrapped up in technology. Netiquette is also something that when done correctly, will help to keep people on the internet safe.

Now that I have, however, I feel that it's a very important term that we should familiarize ourselves, as well as our students with. This is crucial to be aware of since our entire world is now extremely technology based. Our everyday lives revolve around technology and at this point we rely on it. If we're going to be putting this much energy into it, then we should know how to properly speak to each other on it, to avoid disrespect. We often forget that it's just as important to be respectful to each other online as it is offline.

As an aspiring educator, I can confidently say that I would be very open to teaching my future students about netiquette. If I were to teach netiquette as a lesson, I would start by asking them if they know what the term "etiquette" means? Once the word "etiquette" has been addressed, I'd move onto asking them about the full word, "netiquette". I'd explain that they're the same thing (being respectful), however, one of them takes place on the internet. Then, I'd break them up into partners of two and have one student text the other a message that they believe contains improper netiquette. Their partner who receives this message will send them the same message, except with proper netiquette. We will end the lesson with a class discussion on what they've learned and why they think netiquette is so important, especially in today's culture. This lesson will not only allow them to practice and observe what netiquette should look like and what to do, but it also allows them to have a solid understanding of what not to do.

There are two types of bias to be mindful of when talking about news literacy. The first kind is audience bias. Everyone has their own opinions and that should be taken into account when reading something. Try and focus more n the facts at hand then your own opinions on them to get the most out of the news you are reading. Another form of bias to be mindful of is news media bias. Certain channels or publishers have opinions on topics and tend to only report based off of those opinions. Try to be aware of this and steer clear of those because you might not be getting the whole truth.
http://drc.centerfornewsliteracy.org/why-news-literacy-matters

When looking at an article or journal piece it can be very difficult to tell if it should be trusted and if it's credible. One good way to go about this is to look at the sources. You can do a little investigating of your own and actually check out the sources they used and see if they seem credible. Another tip is to see how many sources they used. If they only used one source, chances are they don't have a lot of information and are faking some of it. If they pool from multiple sources, it's a good sign that they did their research and most likely have a more reliable and real news.
https://www.schooljournalism.org/news-literacy-overview/

Knowing all the information I do now, I think incorporating a lesson plan on News Literacy is something I would feel comfortable doing and something I intend to do in my future classroom. Creating this lesson, a simple yet effective idea popped into my head. First I would go over news literacy and tips on how to spot fake news and how to spot a good article. I would split the students up into a couple of small groups. Here I would hand them a pair of articles and ask them to carefully go through a pair of articles on a similar topic and decide which they believe to be more credible or the one without fake news. We would then go over both articles and I would point out what was fake news and what was wrong or right with the articles. We would do this a couple times until I felt they had a grasp on the topic. I think this is an easy and fun way for students to become more comfortable picking out good articles and discovering which ones are littered with fake news.

After learning about it, I've realized that it's most definitely essential for not only ourselves to understand, but for students as well. Today, students are exposed to all sorts of "fake news" and at times it can get hard to determine what's accurate and what's not. Propaganda
is a tool that writers will use in order to make their opinion seem valid and like fact when in reality it's completely biased. We need to ensure that our student are capable of spotting fake news so that they aren't thrown off by false information that the world may
be their way.

Overall, I enjoyed this project. I learned new things about two topics I had never heard of previous to this class and this assignment. Going into my future and wanted to be an educator, this topics are of importance. Being able to show my students good tools for using the internet, which we are completely engulfed in most of the time, is something that will be beneficial to them both in and out of the classroom. It also helped me to learn about these topics so I can apply the skills in my on life. I am constantly on the internet looking at sources for classes, and now I will be able to make sure I pick credible sources. With the internet being so predominate in our everyday lives, I think this was a great topic and I got a lot of good information out f it.

I can genuinely say that after completing this project, I feel that I've learned many valuable things that will end up benefiting me, as well as my future students. Since technology and the internet is becoming such a prominent aspect of our world in the recent years, I can definitely see technology being a huge part of education in the years to come. Due to this, I think it's absolutely necessary for teachers to have a clear understanding of the internet and the best possible ways to navigate it in order to get the optimum educational experience out of it. Our future students will most likely be living in a world based off of modern technology and researching the internet. As educators, it's our job to prepare them to live in this digital-centered type of world.
