ACTIVITY:  Read the webpage with the students and then watch the embedded video.  Give students time to reflect on what they think the message of this resource is. Share a Padlet page for students to post their thoughts on. In the video, they discuss how a lack of technology affects people all over the world including the ability to easily share their culture with others. Have the students choose one of the arts highlighted in the video that lack exposure due to there being limited to no internet or other technology available in those areas. ACTIVITY:  Pull up the website on the smartboard for all of the students to see.  Pick a country that students are not familiar with.  Together look through the pictures and read all of the facts and other information.  Once done talk about what this country and the United States have in common and what big differences they see.  Discuss specific topics such as food, culture, geography, population, education, and technology.  Together create a digital Venn diagram on Classtools.net.  After modeling the correct way to do this, put the students in pairs or in small groups.  Have each pair or group pick 5 countries that they would like to learn more about.  Have them create their own Venn diagrams using Classtools.net.  Upon completion, have each pair or group present what they have learned to the class.  ]]> 2023-05-10 02:37:21 UTC https://padlet.com/ajuhl1/zromm5zoxf7fhia4/wish/2584731414 ajuhl1 https://padlet.com/ajuhl1/zromm5zoxf7fhia4/wish/2584781309 This interactive website was created by two cousins from New Zealand.  Their mission is to create an interactive globe where students can click a place and learn all about it from children just like them.  This platform of children teaching children is a unique and engaging way for students to learn about the world, diversity, and develop cultural sensitivity.

ACTIVITY:  Together as a class, choose one place From Touchable Earth to learn about.  Have the students pay attention to what the students share.  Have them think about the specific aspects that are being shared.  Once all of the videos are completed, discuss what they learned as a class.  Have the students think about specific words or short phrases that describe the student and the culture that they just learned from.  Present a PowerPoint with a ClassPoint Wordcloud link for the students to complete.  The words that are repeated will get bigger. Discuss what things stood out the most. Have the students reflect on what they have learned about the new culture they learned about. Now have students take the time to independently learn about another place of their choice. Have each student complete their own word cloud based on the country they chose. Have students share each project with you and prepare a class presentation. Discuss how different people have different cultures and that diversity is what makes each of us unique.  Talk about some things that they think it would be neat to learn from students their age from another part of the world. Using Go Pangea, model how they can ask a question and get answers from students just like them from around the world. It is set up like a social media platform where students and teachers can post questions and authorized users from all over the world can respond to their questions. ACTIVITY:  Using the Library of Congress, have students explore culturally relevant art depicted by artists from different time periods from all over the world.  Have them discuss what they notice about each piece of art and why they believe it is representative of its area or origin. Have students think about their own culture and background. Have them come up with a list of things that are important to them. Once they are done, have them narrow down the list to the top 3-5 things that most represent them and their culture.
