In a study provided by the World Bank (2014), Jamaicans have an average life expectancy of about 73 years. The average male life expectancy is 73.3 while the average female life expectancy is 78.1.

The ministry of health teams up with other agencies to distribute services across the island. . The Ministry of health is trying to strengthen the ability to provide universal health care access to its citizens. They have enacted specific programs to reach that goal. There are four primary health care centers of excellence that have been recently established in the country to provide access for a broader range of services regarding first level care. 
There are approximately 24 hospitals and 300 health centers on the tiny island. There are different levels/types of hospitals.
