1. The facts surrounding the event (Who did it affect?, What happened scientifically?, When did it happen?) [Person 1]

The tsunami in japan happened in 2011 and affected mostly everyone in the northern part of japan. The tsunami destroyed houses, building, cars, bays, boats, and streets. The tsunami also left a ton of people homeless and jobless since most of the buildings had been left trashed. The streets had been also trashed since there was a lot of things left in the streets like cars, boats, and wood. The Tsunami happened in March, 11, 2011 at 2:36 and lasted for about 6 minutes. The tsunami was caused because of a 9.1 magnitude earthquake that hit the pacific ocean.

Cause and Effect (What caused this to happen?)

Tsunamis are caused from earthquakes, tsunamis, and landslides. Landslides cause tsunamis from debris falling into water causing a very large ripple effect and when the ripple meets land a tsunami is formed. Volcanoes can cause tsunamis too, volcanoes cause tsunamis when there is an eruption. The volcano can be on land or in the sea. If the volcano is under the sea it would be called a submarine volcano. The tsunami can form from debris or lava flowing into the ocean which causes a big ripple. But most destructive and most common is an undersea earthquake. Tsunamis are an after effect of earthquakes. The 2011 tsunami was an after affect of an undersea earthquake.

The tsunami was pretty quick as it went 500 miles per hour meaning you could not outrun it even with the fastest car ever. The tsunami also instigated a a major nuclear accident at a power station near the bay.

(Were there new safety regulations put in place, or did scientists learn something new about how the world works?) [Person 1 & 2]

One positive thing that happened after the 2011 tsunami in japan was that the pushed to reform the crisis management system, making boundaries between responsibilities of local and national government and the operators clear, and establishing clear chain of command in emergency situations. They also build new buildings that where not only new but safer than any other ones. They also did this to houses so that they don't float away like some houses did in the tsunami.
