Bipeds walking on two feet
They carried their young, which is pretty sweet
Couldn't talk and only three feet tall
For a full-grown person that is really really small
3 to 4 million years ago
They're the first ones on hominid row

The next million years is a mystery
Cuz we haven't found remains of hominid history

Homo Habilis was a handy man
He had simple tools and lived in a clan
He was short too, only four feet high
For half a million years he was Africa's guy

Homo Erectus used axes and fire
He lived in oval huts to stay out of the mire
Eating lots of meat helped him last two million years
First to leave Africa, give  him three cheers!

Neanderthals were found in Germany
They were short and stocky like a chimney
The first hominids to hunt in a group
THey would care for the injured in their troop
Neanderthals died out, which isn't fair
But I'm so glad I don't have all that hair

Homo Sapiens Sapiens is hard to say
"Doubly WIse" is your ancestor anyway
They made music and cave art, which is really cool
Hooks, needles, bows, and arrows were some of their tools
Safer hunting with weapons they hurled
They crossed land bridges, spread all over the world

              They were biped, just like you and me. They could also talk, isn’t that crazy?
