I LOVED Mr. Griffith's check-in video! I did it today on the fly, and the kids liked it! It was an easy way to get a feel for where the kids were at, and I even found out one girl was attending class while at the ocean. I'm going to add this as a step for joining our daily meetings.

I introduced etiquette in my classes last week.. Email and when we "crowd source" information. I explained the idea that etiquette allows us to all feel comfortable doing an activity because we all know and follow the rules. When we do that if often helps. I had my kids crowd source the answers to a question I posed where they had to take a line on a shared google sheet, put their name in the first column and 4 more answers in the following columns. They could put new thinking or "borrow" someone else's idea. The best part was when ideas were borrowed they had been told to take it as a compliment.

I have used goguardian to chat with students who are out of class, at home sick, but logged in. So we talk and I get them going on their work so they don't get to far behind.

A lot of students are in my google hangouts. They are also talking to me one on one so it allows me to be responsive all day long. Even if their out sick.

I have had quite a few 1on1 zoom calls with kids clarifying and walking them through a specific assignment. Also have walked kids through some tech issues in regards to AP Classroom.

I did a shared slide presentation with each kid having their own slide to create... they could look at other slides for ideas but had to create their own. Worked pretty well.

Not super great at this one... Kids are quiet, will put something in the chat when asked. Breakout rooms are a work in progress. 1. I can't monitor all at once, & 2. they stay muted.

Sounds odd, but when we were remote due to smoke I actually held a class that was totally on Google Hangout... and not video chatting. We had a discussion about images I was sending them about the Mount Saint Helens eruption. Lots of cool pictures from Moses Lake after the ash covered our town. The kids were super engaged.

Internet can be a frustrating thing. I've added a daily geography entry task for the first couple of minutes of class. It is fine to do it later, but it brings students into class with a consistency that brings a level of comfort. If they come late to class, they know what they missed and can make it up easily independently later.
