It consists of 10 provinces and 3 territories which extends from the Atlantic to Pacific all the way to the Artic Ocean covering 9.98 million square kilometers. Canada is in fact the second largest country in the world in terms of total area. Residents in this country mainly experience cold or severely cold climates, however areas in the South are warmer in the summer. This country is known to be sparsely populating, meaning that majority of the land taken over by tundra, forests, or rocky mountains. More people live in the urban areas than rural areas. Approximately 36 million people live in the urbanized areas in Southern Canada today.

The policy was created mainly to establish the fact that each and every citizen living in this country should be treated equally. Canada believes that this policy would be effective in ensuring that all citizens would be able to keep their identity and feel a sense of belongingness. Multiculturalism encourages racial and ethnic harmony. Through multiculturalism, Canada believes the potential of all citizens and encourages them to merge into their society and participate in social, cultural, economic and political affairs. This important day was established 20 years ago for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures of First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. National Aboriginal Day was established in 1996 by Governor General of Canada, Roméo LeBlanc, through the Proclamation confirming that  June 21 of Each Year will be National Aboriginal Day. The day June 21 was chosen for this special holiday for many reasons. The main reason is that it is the day of summer solstice which is also the day where Aboriginal people celebrate their heritage. Canada's population over one century ago was approximately 3.6 million according to a census made in 1800.  In addition to native peoples (about 136 000 in 1851) in fact,  the 2 largest groups were the French (1 million) and the British (2.1 million). Some of the smaller groups were germans (203 000) and other groups such as the Dutch, American Black, and Italian. As 1900s approached, the more and more people started to immigrate to Canada, however many decided to go back to their native lands. By 1996, the population has rose up to 29 million. During the 19th century, the immigration of different ethnic groups were greatly unrestricted. That is why the population has increased rapidly. However, just the late 1800s and 1900s, Canada was very restrictive towards Chinese immigrants. Canada has established the bilingualism policy to give citizens the ability to communicate in French and English. In the 1800s, it was considered a capital crime for same sex sexual activity and would result in dealth penalty.  During the early to mid 20th-century, homosexual men were often considered as sex offenders until Everett George Klippert from a famous court case, admitted that he had sex with multiple men. This resulted him his life in imprisonment. In 1969, same-sex sexual activity between consenting adults was decriminalized, with the help of  Attorney General of Canada Pierre Trudeau (15th prime minister of Canada). In 2003, same-sex marriage was legalized in 8 out of 10 provinces and only in 1 territory. On July 20, 2005, after the enactment of the Civil Marriage Act, Canada was known to become the fourth country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide. In fact, this country is known for being one of the most gay-friendly countries in the world with Toronto being the most gay-friendly city in Canada.
