Robert E. Lee came up with Special Order 191 as the Confederate plans for moving into Virginia. When two Union soldiers came across a copy of this document, they immediately used it towards the Union advantage. On September 14th, 3 days before battle, Confederate generals encountered the Union army, and suffered many casualties. By the time the battle began, Confederate troops were worn out, sick, and hungry, and had been brutally outnumbered at the Sunken Road, renamed the "bloody lane" after 23,000 casualties in one day. This battle resulted in Union victory.
