I think finding an OEP such as kid-friendly animal wikis is a great stepping stone. If the OEP is run through a google application, read and write should be able to support the learning. 
Personally, I teach 3/4 so my beginning of OEP would actually be to create one, within our school Google Classroom. Having students research and share facts about a basic topic, so they can view how and why OEP can be used I think is an amazing way to get them thinking about collaborative learning.

I would like to have it as a blogsite, and create a space for students to create posts and interact using English. Students would be able to write about different topics, post media, and interact with each other.  I think this can be an OEP that can be used in Cycle 3 Elementary level (Grades 5-6) and throughout all of high-school (grades 7-12). I met with a different family every Friday on Google Classroom. My Sheltered Gr. 9 and 10 ELA students  interviewed their parents for recipes and then took pictures of the completed dish. We published these on Weebly and gave access to  the entire school. These became intercultural OERs that the entire school can use and refer to.
