I've been playing basketball since I was 13 years old. I have used this sport as a tool to build confidence knowing that I would be great at it one day. It has been my motivation for everything since I can remember. Basketball has been a tool for me to learn new things and also get the chance to meet a lot of great people. Basketball has also taught me why it's important to build relationships with people.

This story has given me the opportunity to see things differently through others.

Esperanza is a little girl who moves with her family to a house on Mango Street. It's a small, crumbling red house in a poor urban neighborhood, not at all what Esperanza had been hoping for when her parents promised to move the family to a house. This story shows how a young girl is ashamed of where she comes from and is trying to rebuild confidence. This story taught me that where you come from can not define you as a person.

Thomas, whose mother died in childbirth, understands Victor's loss, and the two bond on their journey. On this journey, I learned that the death of his father was what really inspired him to become a better version of himself. He saw things differently from his friend perspective after really having a talk with him. This story taught me not only the importance of friendship but why you should take the chance to see things differently

Sarty is called up to testify against his father, and he knows he's going to have to lie and say his father didn't burn the barn. At this moment in the story Sarty knew he had a decision to make. This story shows how a person views a certain situation differently than others. I learned that Sarty is trying to protect his father because he knew there was reason behind his father burning down the barn.

Because Troy has had bad experiences with baseball, he doesn't think it's realistic for Cory to pursue playing football. In 'Fences' it shows how a father is trying to make his son go down the same path as he did. In this poem, its showing the importance of transition. When I first read this poem I connected in a way. When you hit a certain point in life you are expected to view things differently. This poem explained in detail what was expected from this 15 year old girl.
