After completing the activity about the subject and content of each assigned task, I felt deeply moved by how detailed and meaningful each presentation was. It was inspiring to see how each individual interpreted the content differently and brought their own understanding to it.

My group was assigned the "Song" category. At first, we faced some difficulty, especially with identifying the "aspect" part of the task. Unlike the painting and sculpture groups, which had clear examples to follow, our task seemed more abstract. However, through brainstorming, we eventually focused on elements like lyrics, rhythm, and melody.As we worked through the songs we selected, I was truly amazed by the depth and emotion behind each one. It gave me a new appreciation for songwriters and how they express meaningful messages through music. Each song we analyzed carried a moral lesson or emotional impact that many of us could relate to, which made the activity even more meaningful.

What made me happiest was that the activity didn’t bore my classmates. In fact, I was really thankful for how engaged and participative everyone was. Their involvement made the experience even more enjoyable and rewarding.

Every step, turn, and gesture is life-like modeled, where one brings forth some adaptation, combat, and genius on with it. Dances for me do not perform but live culture, the breath of our own stories, values, and identity of being Filipino in their breath. The dance videos are inspiring enough in this fast-moving world to bring one several steps back, connect via it to others, and dance one's roots by moving a muscle or two with meaning.

This particular work of art does not only honor Andres Bonifacio, but it also represents the powerful concept of "freedom from oppression." It captures the spirit of resistance and the unwavering courage of Filipinos during the revolution. Through this experience, I gained a deeper appreciation of sculpture as an art form that tells stories, preserves history, and expresses profound messages beyond its physical structure.

The reports we shared in class helped broaden my understanding of art, especially within the context of Filipino culture. I came to see that what we observe visually in an artwork is only the surface. Beneath every shape, movement, sound, or color lies a rich tapestry of symbolism, history, and deeper meaning.

One particular example that stood out to me was our discussion on the Cariñosa dance. As I explored its background and movements, I gained a new appreciation for the creativity and artistry that Filipinos have poured into this cultural expression. The playful, flirtatious gestures, along with the elegant use of handkerchiefs and fans, all serve a purpose in telling a story and conveying emotion. These details highlight how thoughtfully the dance was crafted, making it both beautiful and meaningful.

For me, Cariñosa captures the essence of what it means to be Filipino. It reflects our warmth, grace, and creativity, and it is clear that this dance is more than just a performance—it is a true representation of our identity. Moreover, Cariñosa offers a unique perspective on traditional courtship during the colonial era, which made me reflect on how much our customs and social norms have changed over time.

In conclusion, this experience allowed me to see art in a new light. I now understand that art is not just about visual appeal, but also about the stories, culture, and values it carries. The exploration of Filipino art, especially through dances like Cariñosa, has helped me develop a deeper sense of pride in our heritage. I’ve learned that art is a powerful tool that connects us to our past and continues to shape our identity today.

Typically characterized by fluid movements and elaborate hand gestures while performed by pairs, it reveals mutual courtship, namely respect, admiration, and gentleness that Filipino relationships value. Dancers are inevitably distracted from each other because of the slow tempo of the music and slow execution of the choreography, brought to mind that love flourishes not in haste but through age-old patience and understanding.

To the creator of Cariñosa, these elements are not there just for aesthetic appeal, but they are an identity marker of culture and personal experience. The slow and deliberate movements themselves are a manifestation of "slow love," which is a Filipino worldview where relationships are given time to develop emotional connections and be nurtured to flower. Clearly, this concept of love and courtship stands diametrically opposed to the hurried flirting prevalent in contemporary culture. The creator would have probably been preserving this narrative for posterity to realize the beauty of a love remembered tenderly and cherished for eternity.

What most attracts me to the dance are the themes of intimacy and connection. My interests often lie in the realm of portraying human emotions and the intricacies of relationships. Cariñosa conveys slow and intentional movements, which resonate with my belief that art, much like love, requires time, thought, and presence.

In a fast-paced world yearning for instant gratification, the Cariñosa otherwise introduces the idea of lengthening the moment to allow relationships to blossom in their own time. In conclusion, Cariñosa is more than a dance; it is an expression of the Filipino concept of love, one that is gentle, patient, and anchored deeply in respect.

My assigned dimension of ART was DANCE. At first, I used to see dances like "Tinikling" and "Carinosa" as just part of school programs, choreographed steps that we had to memorize and perform for entertainment purposes only and became special just because it is from our ancestors which make it significant to our time now. But as I search for their subject and content, the more I learned about their meaning, the more I realized how much I had been missing. Understanding the subject and content of these dances felt like opening a window into the everyday lives, emotions, and even struggles of those who came before us. Tinikling, suddenly wasn't just fast footwork anymore, it became a symbol of grace under pressure, of timing and survival, like how Filipinos have always had to adjust and endure. There's something beautiful about how this story is told not through words, but through movement, rhythm, and timing. It made me realize that art, especially dance, speaks in a language we feel more than we hear.

With Carinosa, the experience was even more personal. The soft movements and shy glances in the dance reminded me of how our culture values quiet affection and modesty, something very different from modern, loud expressions of love. It made me think about how art preserves values, even those we may be slowly forgetting. Knowing the background didn't just help me understand the dance, but it also helped me reflect on how I express myself, how I see tradition, and how I sometimes overlook the deeper meaning in things that seem ordinary. For me, understanding the subject of a dance doesn't just make it easier to interpret it, it also transforms it into something intimate. It becomes a quiet bridge between me and the stories of our people, and that's something no choreography alone can teach.

When we were assigned the topic about paintings, we honestly felt a bit unsure and even intimidated at first. Paintings are such a broad and emotional subject, and it was challenging to figure out how to present them in a way that would really resonate with our classmates. We had to think about more than just describing the artwork—we needed to dive deeper into what makes a painting powerful and what the artist is trying to say. As we worked on our presentation, we started to realize how the details and the entire composition can carry a message or an emotion. It was eye-opening to explore how artists use their work to express thoughts that words sometimes can’t, and how they invite their viewers to see the world from a different perspective. In the end, I believe we were able to deliver that message clearly. It felt rewarding to share that understanding with the class and to see that they were engaged and reflective, just like we were during the process.

I am glad that our group was able to present to the class about the subject and the content of each film we have shown. I realized at the end of the presentation how understanding both the subject and content affects us in significance to how we respond to society.

Discovering the realm of painting through Hope in the Ruins of Manila by Fernando Cueto Amorsolo and Domestic Helper by Elmer Borlongan has enriched my appreciation for art beyond what I could have imagined. Beyond mere visual depictions, these pieces are rich stories suspended in time as every brushstroke imbued with history, emotion, and unspoken realities.

Amorsolo's Hope in the Ruins of Manila shows a war-torn city, but with a serene, golden light that gleams quietly. Initially, I appreciated the technical splendor of the work. But when I came to grasp the backdrop in history, it was the destruction caused by World War II and the Filipino people's strength of spirit made the painting changed. It moved from being simply a picture to being an emblem of hope and survival amidst unbearable loss.

On the other hand, Borlongan's Domestic Helper addresses contemporary overseas Filipino workers' struggles in which I can relate because my parents are both OFWs. The muted colors and distant background, completed the look of the subject which conveys much about sacrifice and missing someone. As soon as I understood the social context behind this piece, I could no longer see it as a plain painting. It became a subtle but potent observation on many Filipinos' lives today.

Knowing the subject and context of these works helped me to relate to them on a personal level. It's similar to researching between the lines of a great poem, what isn't said is just as important as what's revealed. From this perspective, painting becomes not only a form of art, but a voice where one that speaks through centuries, reminding us of ourselves and what we've survived. This experience has shown me that appreciation of art is more than aesthetics. It takes empathy, curiosity, and a willingness to look beyond appearances. Only then do we start seeing not only the work of art, but the soul behind the painting.

The paintings we chose were Hope in the Ruins of Manila by Fernando Amorsolo and Domestic Helper by Elmer Borlongan both deeply meaningful in their own ways. At first glance, they might seem different, but they carry a similar weight. They both reflect the struggles of the Filipino people, one rooted in the past, the other in the present. Hope in the Ruins of Manila captures the pain and resilience of Filipinos during the war, surviving despite destruction at the hands of colonizers. On the other hand, Domestic Helper sheds light on the quiet, often unseen sacrifices of modern-day Filipinos who leave home to work abroad. These individuals endure loneliness and hardship, all to provide a better life for their families back home.

Looking at both paintings made me reflect. I could feel the emotions the artists poured into their work, the pain, the strength and the silent hope. It made me realize that suffering isn’t always loud or obvious. Sometimes, it hides behind smiles, across a distance, or deep within someone’s heart. And in that silence, there is still strength, still love, and still the unbreakable spirit of being Filipino.

Both paintings made me appreciate art so much more. It’s honestly amazing how a single painting can hold so much meaning. At first glance, it might just look like an ordinary image but when you really take the time to look closely, and try to see things from the artist’s perspective, it can stir emotions you didn’t even know you had. What struck me is how a painting can take you back in time or help you understand the present. It’s like a quiet storyteller, revealing pieces of our history and moments we tend to overlook. There’s something beautiful about how different artworks can act as mirrors reflecting not just what has happened, but also what’s still happening today. To some, it may just be painted on a canvas. But to me, it’s powerful. It is a reminder that art has the ability to open our eyes to the realities we don’t always see or choose to ignore. That’s what makes it so special.

For our group reporting titled “Exploring the Subject and Content of Art Courses“ we were assigned to report about sculptures in the Filipino context. When we were given this task, it made me reflect and realize that sculpture is one piece of our history that is often overlooked. When we think of the Filipino culture in the are world, we usually focus on singing, dancing, painting, songs, and movies, so it was a bit challenging to think of ways to creatively present sculpture as something equally engaging and captivating.

As a group, we decided to revolve our presentation on the idea of time traveling. This way, we could guide our classmates through the different eras of the Philippine history, allowing them not only to see the sculptures created during each time period but also to understand and appreciate the themes, values, and the stories embedded within each piece as time passed by. To make the experience more immersive, we wanted our classmates to connect with the sculptors. Before they could “travel through time” they first had to carve a key out of a bar soap. This served as their ticket and symbolically placed them in the shoes of the sculptors – giving them first-hand experience into the creativity, patience, and effort that goes into sculpting.

As we journeyed through the different time periods, it was interesting seeing the changes in themes, values, and stories in each sculpture. In the Pre-Colonial Period, we have the Anito Figure from the Ifugao people, where it symbolizes ancestral spirits. In the Spanish Colonial Period we have the La Venganza de la Madre by Dr. Jose Rizal. It shows the hardships and realities that the Filipinos had to endure under the reign of the Spaniards. In the Revolutionary Period, we have Guillermo Tolentino's Bonifacio Monument where serves as a homage to the courage, solidarity and rebellion. Lastly, in the Contemporary Period we have Napoleon Abueva's The Transfiguration where it symbolizes hope, resurrection and faith.

By going through the different eras, learning about each of the context and interpretation of it allowed me to appreciate our culture even more. Each sculpture in each era clearly showed their mark in our culture today. How we are religious, resilient and our love for our family and community. It is honestly amazing, and I am awe-struck by how rich and diverse our culture is. The beauty of sculptures is, we are not limited to what the sculptor's interpretation, we the viewers are also allowed to interpret it how we like, and it is also a physical reminder of our history. This activity truly showed me that art and history truly go hand in hand. By studying and learning more about sculptures, it allowed me to add another piece to the puzzle of discovering who I am as a Filipino and as a person.

This activity helped me appreciate sculpture art on a deeper level. I started looking at each piece as a story that was captured in time—a story of a particular time period, belief, or experience—rather than just as a work of art. I was more capable to relate to the sculptures when I understood the background, whether it was the impact of Spanish colonization, the resilience of indigenous culture, or the social issues brought to light by contemporary artists. I became more involved and proud of the value and expressiveness of Philippine art as a result. I've discovered that sculpture art is about identity, history, emotion, and purpose rather than just shapes and materials. And the experience becomes more potent, significant, and memorable when we comprehend what's going on underneath the surface.

In preparing for this activity, we struggled a bit because we really want our presentation to be fresh and new as well as, we want to discuss the pieces well. Luckily, the brainstorming really did work, and we came up with a game show. It's not only fun but it also gave fresh information about the pieces. I am thankful for all my groupmates for doing their part and giving inputs for the success of the presentation.

To sum it up, I'm really grateful for this activity. This activity not only deepened my appreciation for Philippine Literature but it also encourages me to be creative in my own way.
