The genocide was focused on the core point of extreme Chinese communism/militarism and the idea that all Cambodians had to work in labor camps and farms. Cambodia basically became a totalitarian state. First, they evacuated people out of their homes and forced them to walk to farms and labor camps and the people unable to make the journey were killed. They shut down schools, hospitals, universities, factories, etc. Temples and churches were burned, religion was banned, and all civil and political rights were destroyed.

The Khmer Rouge killed Cambodians for doing random things such as smiling or wearing glasses. Cambodians were faced with slave labor, starvation, and illnesses. This continued for a few years until Vietnam invaded Cambodia and pushed out the Khmer Rouge government in 1979.

Even after the Khmer Rouge was pushed out, Cambodians continued to die. A lot of them fled to Thailand, some died of starvation, and others died on the way to Thailand due to landmines. During the Vietnam war, the U.S thought that they were free to move into Cambodia and they used it as a battlefield. They were killed by B-52 bombers for being suspected Viet Cong targets.

The Cambodian Genocide matches the UN Definition of a genocide because it was involved in (a) killing of members of a specific group, (b) the causing of serious bodily and mental harm to members of the group, and (c) deliberately inflicting conditions on the group meant to destroy them over time. The Khmer Rouge intentionally destroyed peoples homes and land/property and caused more damage and made their lives worse. (c) They forced every Cambodian to slave labor intended to have them keep working until they couldn't work anymore. (b) Elders and physically disabled people that couldn't make the walk to the camps were killed. (a) If they couldn't work anymore they were killed. A few years after the genocide, they found some of the perpetrators; like Pol Pot and members of the Khmer Rouge, guilty of war crimes.

Yes the Cambodian genocide does match with the A , B and C Un definition. It matches A because this genocide killed people in ethnic minorities , religious groups and social groups. They would be banned by speaking their own language , taking out their own religious or cultural practices .Then it match the B UN definition because people were forced to immigrant to the countryside. They would banned religions , temples and churches were burn down ex:(Buddhist monks , Christian). Also at that time racist sentiments existed so Khmer Rouge would kill because of extreme propaganda.Lasly it matches C because they would make an excuse to deliberately kill people because of stuff like wearing glasses , smiling or crying.
