One of my goals for this project is to become a stronger player. I hope that being in this quintet will allow me to improve my playing abilities. Being in a chamber group will force me to play louder and make sure that I completely know all of the notes and rhythms. I also hope to learn more about how the individual parts of a piece work together. Hopefully, learning about this can help me when playing in future groups whether they are small or large.

My goal for this project is to grow as an individual and learn to rely more on myself being the only cello, and to play out and play confidently to benefit the group. With such a small group its important to me to be able to play my part well, and also make sure that I am learning how to listen to the other instruments to find where we are, rather than listening to people in a section. I hope that it'll be easier to see the music as music, meaning each and every part of it, rather than listening mainly on my own sections part and perfecting it to match the people who play the same thing.

During this Chamber music project, I hope to learn how to play to the best of my ability despite the size of the group. As a violist, our parts in full orchestra can sometimes be very simple, and it can be easy to become complacent with only playing easy parts. I hope that during this project, I can play music that although is slightly more of a challenge for me would teach me to better work together with my group. I also hope to be able to focus on specific aspects such as dynamics and technique and ultimately try to focus more because i have the attention span of a 2 year old.

My goal in this project is to develop my section leader skills by being able to keep all members of the group as together as possible by setting clear tempos and giving clear cues while performing. Last year I was able to learn the basics of how to do the art of cuing, but now would like to further develop this skill. This is my goal because the group tends to still get lost, and if my cues were clear, frequent enough, and at the right times, then there would be no confusion. Listening better for the other parts and how they are supposed to fit together also goes hand in hand with this skill, which I would also like to develop more. Being able to figure out rhythms more on my own than relying on someone else to help me out is also a major goal of mine.

So far, we only have 4 out of the 6 pieces we need. It has been hard for us to come to an agreement about which parts to transpose to viola considering a challenge is that we 2 violists in the group. The time constraint makes it hard for us to play the difficult level of music some of us want to play because we simply don’t have enough time to practice. though we have 4, we have only managed to sound decent in one of them. so i guess send help? Yes...

Difficult rhythms are not preventing us from being together, and one or two of our pieces no longer require a metronome to keep us together, which is most certainly progress.

We decided to choose pieces that are challenging, but still allow us to sound good within the short amount of time we have. The hardest part has been taking the time to make sure that everyone is on beat an "fitting" together.

We played yesterday, and I think it could have definitely been done better. Although it took us a long time to pick out our pieces, we somehow made it work. We were off tempo in High Hope, and during the medley, my counting was off, and I struggled to find where to come in. However, due to how much we practiced, we were able to quickly recover. I think that picking out our pieces earlier on in the project and working on them the whole time would have allowed my group to sound better. If we had come to an agreement about what to play within the first week or two of beginning the project, we would have been able to work on the pieces for a longer amount of time and felt more confident while playing tonight. This project has taught me that every part of the orchestra is needed. If one person in the group didn’t fully know how to play something, the whole piece sounded off. This effect still happens in an orchestra although on a smaller scale. This has reminded me that as a musician, it is important that I try my best so that the whole group sounds better.

I believe that most of our messed up spots were concert jitters, as they were mistakes that we haven't made before. It is always an experience to play for other people and that's usually where mistakes come through, but we managed to stick together and change tempos and keys and hold fermatas together very effectively.

Overall, I think that out performance went well. There were definitely parts where we weren't together, but no one stopped playing and we were eventually able to get back together. After the initial anxiety wore off, we began to sound better. The most difficult piece was High Hopes because everyone has different rhythms on the second page which makes it difficult to know if someone is a measure behind or ahead. We managed to end at the same time despite the chaos. Our classical piece was error free despite a few minor intonation problems.
The overall process of the project was a good experience because everyone learned how to become a better and more confident musician in a short period of time. Despite the stress, we all were able to improve in different ways.

I think overall our group worked very well together through this process. Our communication was excellent. Our class performance was a little rough, and I think that could have been prevented by practicing together more outside of school when it was quiet and we could better pinpoint what the issues were. It was a good exerience. I sawgrow th in everyone, and feel confident that I improved as an individual in the areas I wished to see myself grow at the beginning of this project. I think we all got closer as friends and as musicians as well and were able to give each other positive feedback and will miss this group and playing with them.
