I learn the best through discussion. One-on-one communication with someone allows you to understand and evaluate someone's most concise and clear perspective on whatever topic it is they may be discussing. Even if said other person isn't that great with words, or barely speaks at all, simply seeing their body language and hearing how they're trying to get their message across can say everything they want to say... without them ever speaking a word. Debates are even better, in my opinion (classroom debates especially). You get multiple perspectives and opinions on a single topic-matter. If carried out civilly, and all people in the room stand to have an open mind, it is actually quite fun (though, there's usually always a bit of tension hanging in the air).

I struggled with the whole thing to be completely honest. I'm not great at writing, and I was absent for a day. With my luck I probably wrote the whole essay incorrectly, but I guess that will reveal itself in due time. I know I tried to explain the idea of pathos, but I didn't feel fully confident that I was talking about "pathos", so I never once mentioned it. Nor did I mention any of the other three out of ethos, pathos, and logos (though logos, I feel fully confident in mentioning). I did, however, use many quick-witted arguments. Those being rhetorical strategies I basically just came up with off the top of my head.

Next time, I can actually use the words "ethos, pathos, and logos." I can also utilize more skills from the rhetorical analysis essay I saw in Outliers. This being I can draw more information from the text in order to back up my point. I can also show my audience the author's techniques and ways of convincing their audience of their point of view. I can show my audience how the author was persuasive, to be precise. Next time, I can put more effort into my writing in order to create a more succinct and complete essay.

History affects the outcome of a writing. That can be the language, the wording, the context, dialogue, and much much more. For example, if war is going on at the time a novel is being written, that can cause the writer to write the novel in a very sad tone, as they may be very sad. In another light, they may write the novel in a very happy tone as to try to bring light to a dark time and situation. However, some authors will not be affected by history at all. They will write how they choose to write. Even as knowledge continues to grow, and more discoveries change the world, their perspective will not shift.
