Odysseus receives a bag of all the winds that could blow their ship off course from Aeolus, and set off again, only to have their plans ruined when Odysseus falls asleep right before they arrive on Ithica.

The men set sail again, but this time, with thick wax over their ears. In order to overcome the sirens, they must be unable to hear the enchanting song. Odysseus chooses just to be tied down during the voyage so he can hear the song. Thereafter, Odysseus must choose if he would rather face Charybdis or Scylla, the monsters of the sea. The first is a six-headed monster lurking in an overhanging, fog-concealed cavern that will devour one man for each head. The second is Charybdis, a monster whirlpool that swallows everything near it three times a day. He chooses Scylla, and pushes through the monster's attack without stopping for a fight, realizing that delay would only cost him more men. He loses six of his men, but realizes that he has saved more lives despite the heart-wrenching feeling of guilt.
