this resonates with me because i do believe that friendship takes time you can’t just immediately be a friend so someone. You have to get to know eachother and see if you vibe together.

Friendship and Women’s rights

The friendship theme resonates with me because I really value friendships and I feel that’s how you get through day to day. I also feel the Women rights theme goes with me because it is important for women to be treated equally.

I think that one that stuck with me is the leg incident and how it’s symbolic of perseverance. I like the friendship takes time from the other group because it is very true.

My group chose to do friendship as a major theme throughout this book. This resonated with me because friendships are a big part of me and they have always been there to support me. One group theme that stood out to me from my peers was women’s empowerment because this was a huge part of the book from Laila and Mariam.

Loyalty

The one that stuck to me was loyalty because because it is very important to the story like how she was loyal and came back to her family at the end.

Forgiveness

I think that forgiveness is an important theme within the book. Mariam and Laila forgave each other after they were at odds for a while. At the end of the book, Jalil begs for forgiveness, even though they had both passed.

Women’s Empowerment

As a women this theme resonates with me because without certain laws and changes my life would be very different. Because of these changes, I am able to be myself and make my own decisions!

I think it's important because its what enables people to be strong and stick together throughout the book. Some people did gender roles and friendship. They were good and insightful

I liked the women's empowerment theme because it shows up throughout the whole story. They are important because the education to women is given with the Soviets, and then taken away as the story goes on, and is fought for again. From my peers, I saw friendship, perserverance, and loyalty.

Sacrifice

This theme resonated with me because it takes a lot of work and commitment to sacrifice our time, energy, and attention for something or someone. The theme was demonstrated with a ticking clock, sleeping baby, and a cross.

Women’s Empowerment

Throughout the whole story Laila went back to things her father said about how she can be whatever she wants. He always wanted her to go far in life but she decided once her married Rasheed that the future she always wanted was gone. Thankfully in the end of the story she was able to be a school teacher and it’s important to me because it just shows there’s a lot light at at the end of the tunnel.

Friendship

Friendship is pretty important in this story because Mariam and Laila wouldn't have gotten away from Rasheed and his abuse if they didn't become friends and plan a way to leave. Some other themes I saw was Loyalty and Women's empowerment.

Mariam showed her resilience by overcoming her fear of Rasheed's power and saves Laila's life. Mariam and Laila try to plan an escape to gain freedom away from Rasheed.
