Sick internet 'troll' who posted vile messages and videos taunting the death of teenagers is jailed for 18 WEEKS

On Facebook, a man made hateful and vicious comments about teenagers who had killed themselves or committed suicide. His comments sparked outrage among the victims' families. He was found guilty of sending malicious messages and sentenced to 18 weeks in prison. The Daily Mail's headline contains the emotive adjectives "sick", "vile" and "taunting", which expresses obvious disgust. The Daily Mail also includes far more details about the messages and videos Sean Duffy posted. It is more descriptive (including swear words used by him) and goes into greater detail about the videos and messages. It places more focus on the crime committed rather than the punishment imposed. I believe that the Daily Mail emphasized more on the emotional aspect of the story and creating an outrage tone in places because they appeal to the reader’s sense of outrage by being more explicit and emotive.

This article is about how a physical education teacher of a secondary school made lewd jokes about rape to his students during class. The Free Malaysia Today (FMT) news outlet has written a very concise and factual headlines, which shows they are being straightforward. This article not only quoted the student's comments on how she felt, but also the comments made by several parties, such as the school counsellor, education minister and also the All Women's Action Society (AWAM). The comments of our education minister and AWAM being quoted make the article even better as it shows that this issue has been raised to higher authorities and conveys the message whereby we should not make lewd and inappropriate jokes on rape as it is not a laughing stock. Furthermore, educators must become a good example for their students and lose their narrow mindset on issue as this.

I warned Bersatu leaders about Umno but they ignored me, says Dr M

This article was published by New Straits Times (NST) with a catchy headline to grab the attention of the readers. However, as a reader myself, I find this article to be poorly written and less informative. This is due to the fact that they did not conquer the article mostly with the 5W and 1H (what, where, when, why, who and how). First of all, they mentioned that Dr. Mahathir allegedly forewarned regarding BERSATU's coalition with Barisan Nasional (BN) party will only do harm, however they failed to mention what harm did Dr. M claimed that bound to happen and they have only mentioned along the lines that BN is "far stronger" which lacks eloquence in their writing. Furthermore, they wrote that BERSATU was also facing political crisis with several other parties, like PAS without any context of answering the question why. As a reader, I believe there are many holes that are not filled in this article and when reading this, more questions are raised than answered.

Asia One has reported that the former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has been issued with a bankruptcy notice for failing to pay more than $400 million (S$535 million) in unpaid taxes, a development characterized by the ex-prime minister as an effort to ruin his political career. This is a well-written article as they have covered on the prior charges faced by Najib Razak, such as money laundering and corruption to give a context to the reader on what has led him to the current situation. This article also has dug deeper to find out his point of view on why he thinks that he was issued with such lawsuit. As mentioned, Najib Razak posted a post on his Facebook account that he believed the circumstance of the notice was connected to a month ago's choice by his political party, the United Malays National Organization (UMNO), to quit helping out Malaysia's current Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's government in forthcoming elections. This shows to the readers that Asia One has tried to look into his point of view also without being biased.

The headlines of this article says it all as it brings to the readers' attention that previously schools has been shut down and now the number has increased. This article was written in a report form whereby they have given the numbers of schools along with names of all 30 schools. The collected data provided is very crucial in a report article to ensure the readers receive factual information on what's happening around them. Moreover, they have also cited Malaysiakini in the article to give proper credit to the author of the information. This article is a well-written report and as a reader while reading this, I can imagine how shutting down schools can very much affect the education of the younger generation and the importance of following the SOP to curb the spreading of this deadly virus and putting an end to this pandemic.

Since the pandemic started, everybody was crammed into their homes with implementing lockdowns. It has been a difficult year for every individual, including students. BBC News has invited two struggling students to provide their insights on this situation, which helps the article to be well articulated. BBC has quoted Sam McKenzie's words in bold and larger size, quote "We've been screaming for support", and I believe the word "screaming" is be sole word that would provoke the angry and sad emotions of the readers as it displays the student's unheard voices. Besides Sam, Robbie Denby was also interviewed and he raised his concerns as a biomedical sciences student that he only spent 2 hours in lab by far this year (2021). Furthermore, they have also covered several aspects in this article, for instance regarding the online petition started by students of UK, calling for their tuition fees to be cut down; if there's any other options other than a refund and also what is likely to happen if such action is done. Overall, this article is very lucid and informative.

Genetically modified mosquitoes to be released in Florida after years of planning

Florida will begin releasing genetically modified mosquitoes as part of its efforts to monitor one of the disease-carrying populations of the biting insect. The author has pointed out that this is not the first time Florida state has come up with a solution to kill disease-transmitting mosquito species. Prior to this, they had done programs on male mosquitoes that carried bacteria called Wolbachia in 2017 and 2018. In addition, the author has also stated facts on how disease-transmitting mosquitoes have affected new born babies with birth defect in Brazil and Portugal. The conclusion, however, is slightly imprecise; the last paragraph of the article is just a description on the result of genetically modified mosquitoes have impacted in Brazil and does not seem to conclude the text in a logical way on the result in Floride.

The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 200,000 people in India, as a crippling wave of new infections rips through dense cities and rural areas alike, overwhelming health-care systems on the verge of collapsing. This article has mentioned the devastating number of people died― 3293 people―in just a week. The author has also reported on the number of new infections discovered. Furthermore, the author has also covered the issue on the prediction of how the disease might have spread rapidly in such short period of time by stating health experts claimed that huge gatherings during Hindu festivals and mammoth election rallies in some states have accelerated the unprecedented surge. Additionally, they have also posted a video of overseas news channel reporting on the recent outbreak and also includes the reporter stating that various countries are sending help to India to provide aid, which might give a sense of hope to the readers that other countries are willing to risk their lives for the Indian citizens to fly over there to help them as much as they need to curb this issue. The author finally concluded the article with an emotional dialogue quoting one of the Covid-19 victim's father, Radha Gobindo Pramanik, quote "Before I could understand anything, she collapsed in the arms of her husband." This article is well articulated and eloquently written by stating facts and also provoking the emotions of the readers.

Covid vaccine: Sore arm and headache most common side effects

The world is in the midst of a COVID-19 pandemic. With the arrival of the first batch of Covid-19 vaccines in countries all over the world, many are eager to know what happens next and when they can get their shots. However, it has been said that Covid vaccine may bring side effects to individuals. The article stated that the most common side effects of the vaccine would be a sore arm, fever, headache and more. Meanwhile, the author has also asserted that researchers of an app, called ZOE Covid Symptom Study reported fewer reactions of the side effects, which shows the readers that the vaccine can be trusted despite the side effects. This article would have been better if the author has interviewed few of the vaccinated people to see if the alleged side effects are true and does not harm or deteriorate their health in any way. Despite all that, the article has provided enough data on the clinical trials of the vaccine tested on people that might convince readers to get vaccinated. The style used to write is mildly complicated with the jargon terms, yet precise and accurate.
