Ballet
We learnt about parallel position, first position and second position and also the difference between a full plie and a demi-plie. We learnt a way to keep our legs straight as we moved them out in front of us. I personally struggled keeping my leg straight as it moved.
Another thing that I learnt today was how to use a barre correctly. We always start with our left hand on the barre, and when we turn to change sides we must turn towards the barre. I found this quite natural to do anyway.
I struggled when doing a full plie because I find that I tend to sit on my calves when we're supposed to hover. Also I would go down into it too fast when we have a 4 count to go from a demi-plie to a full plie.

Contemporary

We started with a warm up, I need to work on my fitness so that I do better when keeping my arms up for one song. We did a stretching sequence and I think that I did pretty well when we had to remember it and do it ourselves.
After the warm up and stretching, we learnt a piece of movement. We were laying on the floor into parallel with our knees bent. We had to keep our foot in contact with the floor and swing them around alternatively for 4 counts and then we rolled on the 5, 6 & 7th count to get back to parallel position on the 8th count and then repeat.
We were told to learn the piece and then show it in twos, I helped my partner remember the movement and I think I did quite well.
I need to work on keeping my foot in contact with the floor when swinging my leg around, and also my timing needs some work, I would always get to the 8th count position before the 8th count.

Ballet
I still struggle with keeping my legs straight. I need to work on finding my center when standing in parallel position so that I don't drop my hip when moving my leg out to the front.
This session we learnt the Reverence, which is the part of a show where you give thanks to the audience.
We learnt how to do a fondu. I found it quite difficult to keep in time and I need to work on making sure I do every movement rather than just moving my leg around lazily.
We also learnt about the arm positions, and the term bras bas which is the first position for the arms, where the arms are positioned in front shaped as if you are holding a beach ball.

Contemporary
First we warmed up by walking and then running around the room. Saydi threw in 3 balls into the middle for us to catch and roll to someone else while running around. I couldn't run because of an injury to my foot, but I made sure that I wasn't walking without purpose, keeping my head held up and my stomach sucked in.
After warming up, we went onto our stretching sequences, we were told to learn it so that by next week we could do it without Saydi's help.
After that we did the swings on the floor. I think I did pretty well with those - only have to work on making sure my foot keeps contact with the floor.
We then did some centre work, by closing our eyes and moving our weight around, forward, backwards and to each side.
After the centre work we moved onto our phases - I think I picked up the moves quite quickly and I plan to practice at least once a day to perfect it.
