They were charging the enemy who had seized their guns. They fought with swords and they lost many men.            

    Alfred Tennyson was the most popular poet of the Victorian Era. He was the most versatile poet of his time. He was born August 6,1809. Tennyson was the fourth in a family of twelve. His family lived in poverty. His life was full of pain and turmoil. His father and brothers suffered from depression and drug addiction. One brother was committed to an insane asylum and another brother became addicted to opium. His father became violent and abusive from his alcoholism. They also had epilepsy. The death of Tennyson’s best friend at a young age influenced his writing and several of his poems pay tribute to him. One of his poems is titled “The Charge of the Light Brigade”. Another one of his poems is titled “Claribel”. Excerpt from “The Charge of the Light Brigade”, “All in the valley of Death. Rode the six hundred. (line 3-4).
