In Purple Hibiscus the author believes that domestic violence in families takes time to notice but once seen may turn a life around completely. Kambili and her brother live there lives in fear of being punished for making mistakes leading them to be mute. Their father punishes their mother and both children because of the recent sins leading to physical and emotional illness. Their father believes that beating them will lead them down the right path. They are punished when failing to succeed.

"Ready player 1" is a source I find relates to this book because both children find ways to escape from reality, in the movie "Wade" discovers the Oasis as a "get away". In the book "Kambilli" finds that her aunts house is also more like a "get away" to escape her dads domestic behaviors ever so often.

"Radio Flyer" is a source I find relates to this book because, in the movie Mike and Bobby are both abused and dream of making their Radio Flyer fly so they can escape there reality. In the book Kambilli uses her aunts house as a "safe place".

Kamibilli becomes "mute" because of the way her home life was set up.

"Fried green tomatoes" is a source I find relates to this book because the young woman feels as if a man has more meaning then a woman so she doesn't have her own voice. This was about the time the woman's rights took place. This relates to the book because kambilli also felt she didn't have a voice.
