The Module 1 End of Module performance task asks students to build a toy. They have to understand the different ways to play with toys, how to share toys, and how imagination is involved in play. They will have to use all of these skills learned throughout module 1 to create a toy.

Students will use the habits of character they have learned throughout the module to create their most magnificent thing. This will require them to take initiative, collaborate, and persevere when it doesn't turn out they way they want the first time. They will use tools they have learned about throughout the unit to create their most magnificent thing.

Students performance task will include creating a magnificent thing over many lessons. This will be done in small groups using their habits of character. When finished they will write about their creation.

In this unit, students will build both literacy and citizenship skills through the study of toys and the concept of playing together. Students will learn to identify and describe attributes—the characteristics or features of objects—and use this understanding to describe various toys in detail.

As part of the lesson, students will interview a classmate about their preferred toy. They will practice asking and answering questions, listening respectfully, and recording key information. Then, students will use their writing and drawing skills to create a piece that explains how to play with their classmate’s favorite toy. This activity helps students develop empathy, communication, and collaboration skills while strengthening vocabulary and descriptive writing

The students need to be able to problem solve to discover and describe an item that is needed in their classroom, such as a pencil holder, and use tools to create that item. Then they will work together to write about how habits of character and tolls lead to the creation of their item.

In this unit the students are expected to build their literacy and citizenships skills by engaging in a study of schools around the world. Students must first have an understanding of what is school and why schools are important. In unit 2 students then begin with read alouds of Incredible and Unusual schools around the world to better understand some of the challenges other schools face and some of the challenges students face when it comes to school. They also begin to solve some of the problems that other students might face when it comes to attending school. Students are taking notes to come back to review upon. In unit 3 students then begin to research to learn about the similarities and differences between their own school and the other schools that were mentioned in the read aloud. Students are then expected to use the writing process to show/demonstrate their knowledge of similarities and differences between their school and a school they have researched. After finishing their book from using the writing process students must present their knowledge to kindergarten students.

Students will compare and contrast their school with a school from the "Off to Class: Incredible and Unusual Schools Around the World" book that we had read from throughout the module. They will use the writing process steps and create their own book to share with Kindergarten students.

Students will create an informational book titles, "The Most Important Things About Schools." Using information from whole class and small group research, they write and compile a book that compares and contrasts their own school with a school from Off to Class: Incredible and Unusual Schools Around the World by Susan Hughes. Using The Important Book by Margaret Wise Brown as inspiration, students' books conclude with a reflection statement on what they think is the most important things about schools. They will work through the writing process on this. Afterwards, students will share their books with Kindergarteners as a "Celebration of Learning."

They should know what attributes are when describing things.

Interview each other on their favorite classroom toy.

Drawing, labeling, and/or writing their preferred classroom toy.

They will create a toy of their own for the classroom.
