Gaps and Growth Potential Analysis of Sykes Holiday Cottages

In the United Kingdom, Sykes Holiday Cottages is a private limited business. Tourists and owners can rely on them to offer the most significant houses and they want to be the leading supplier of holidays in the country. In the following, four critical aspects of Sykes Holiday Cottages have been analysed for identifying gaps and growth potential within the business.

Small Business Ownership

Small business properties are also known as 'small business owners' is usually take considerable risks. The company owner tends to be at the centre of every project, as he is responsible for its overall strategy, tactics and organizational structure. At Sykes Holidays, CEO Graham and his directors decide who will work with and what job to do, how many working hours are doing, pay and leave.

There is a huge gap in small businesses such as Sykes Holiday Cottages because it gives them authority status. Some entrepreneurs want to be their bosses. But there is also the status and pride of ownership. They start a business, run it for a while, and then sell it. These funds can be used to fund the next initiative. If they don't want to sell, they may want to develop something to pass on to their children in order to secure their financial future.

Operations Management

Operations management is essential to a company's ability to manage, control and supervise its products, services and employees. For a small business such as Sykes Holiday Cottages, customer-oriented and business-related operations are the two prominent service organizations that could classify their business. For example, if tourism customers are constantly over budgeting, a major operational concern would be their procedures to create their estimates at the beginning of a holiday.

Leadership and Teams

Today's managers and leaders are more responsible for delegating top-down tasks and managing people and strategy, which is a change from previous generations. This progress has transformed the way leaders work and their ability to succeed. Good project management is no longer enough preparation for a manager's job as the many executives are promoted from technical positions in their business, recruited after holding comparable positions in other organizations, or raised internally for no reason other than superiority.

This results in a significant lack of leadership and management skills, which negatively affect the entire business, no matter how paid the organization is. For the Leadership program to be effective, the company must first identify the skills gaps in their business now, if not in the future. They also need to separate their short-term and long-term goals over the next 6-12 months (Hodgetts, Kuratko & Gulbrandsen, 2013). These need to be addressed to ensure that Sykes Holiday Ltd. has the right management team behind them.

Growth Strategies

According to Lechner & Gudmundsson (2012), Sykes, Holiday Cottages has a specific internal strategy developed according to Greiner's growth model. They have been successful as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) because of their inventiveness. They have increased their profits in three years with the proper guidance and leadership (Mbah Takwi, 2020). Within the company, each department has an analyst who reports on the state of human development. The Health and Safety Committee also has excellent coordination among its staff, allowing them to provide more outstanding services for what their consumer wants (Sykes Holiday Cottages, 2022). At Sykes Cottages Ltd, collaboration is relatively easy, resulting in strategic partnerships with many business partners and companies around the globe, such as Bach Care, a New Zealand company.

In 1991, Sykes Holiday Cottages was created, and since then, it has been one of the most popular cottage rental firms in Britain. Founded in the Yorkshire Dales by Clive Sykes and his mother, SHC has grown to manage over 16,000 vacation properties across the United Kingdom and Ireland. CEO Graham Donoghue has turned SHC into a fast-paced technology company that welcomes more than 1 million tourists each year, making the past three years the most lucrative in the company's history (Sykes Holiday Cottages, 2022). To become the UK's most popular vacation rental company, they must supply their customers with the most luxurious accommodations.
