Ethical Computing Information Wall by Allison R Gamarra

Access and use of digital and computer resources is a privilege and it comes with user and provider rights and responsibilities. In an effort to provide parameters around the ethical use of computers, the Computer Ethics Institute developed the Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics.

The Information wall should contain the following:

-Identify The Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics
-Insert possible resources (e.g. images, videos, sound) that would aid people in complying with these rules.
-Address the following questions within this information wall.
Q1. Which of the Ten Ethical Computing Guidelines do you think students violate most often?
Q2. Why do you think these violations occur?
Q3. What do you think could be done to reduce or eliminate such unethical behavior?

People should be cautious of the intentions they set when using a computer. These ethical issues deal with how computing professionals should make professional and social conduct decisions in practicing technology. Some are aware of the wrong they do, such as stealing software, using unauthorized hardware, and rights to products.

I think these three guidelines' violations occur most often because students of all levels of education have most likely done this before. In guideline #2, it is very common for students to want to work with people on assignments, but sometimes it can take a negative turn when a student will copy or try to take credit for another student's work. For guideline #6, I think this applies to students who use the free textbooks through websites where they are downloaded and this would mean it is being illegally downloaded to the laptop and not through a school store to purchase course materials. As for guideline #10, though sad to say, I think most students participate or have been victims of cyberbullying, which is bullying done online while the bully is behind a screen. This can be done through various platforms, whether social or educational, and harm students.

For students in an educational setting, I think this unethical behavior in technology can be reduced by providing students with school-issued laptops to prevent any illegally downloaded or harmful programs. There are also firewalls pre-installed on these computers to provide a barrier between networks in security to block off unethical use of technology. In a workplace setting, such actions that violate computer ethics can be reduced by holding workshops on the risks of technology that can teach professionals how to protect one's privacy as well as other important features. Towards a general audience, I think the best way is to reach out and learn more, whether that be through videos or articles, and to make sure one is changing passwords, using safe websites, not violating copyright, and more.

Protecting your privacy rights is a major component in computer ethics. People online should make sure they are using passwords with low risk of repetition, such as capital case and lower case along with numbers, punctuation, and symbols. Using MFA (multi-factor authorization) is recommended too.

This video demonstrates a story of two workers violating the ethics of computer use in their workplace through wrongful actions. They have violated each other's rights to access, privacy, and property. This is very serious in a workplace when committing unethical behavior because it harms many people and their belongings and work.
