She found and sought out a library in her neighborhood in her years before attending school and taught herself to read. When her parents finally allowed her to go to school, largely misunderstanding why Matilda wanted to go in the first place, Matilda excelled academically. Her lyrics, preaching self reliance in the face of heartbreak, are reminiscent of "Self-Reliance" by Ralph Waldo Emerson which highlights the idea that "nothing can bring you peace but yourself". Being that he learned to read at a late age, his parents decided to send him to private school. When he was 15, Einstein began to educate himself and pursued his intellectual inquiries individually.
