After watching the TED talk of Mr. France Villarta, my main take away is that being inclusive and accepting is and should be part of our culture as Filipinos. He exposed us to our past and ancestors, and spoke about powerful women such as the Babaylan, and how men cross-dressed during that time. All these events and people may be present in the past but we should still continue to live out the legacy that they passed down to us. We have seen as well that Leni, a transgender woman, was able to have a family, and that what ever gender you identify yourself as, society needs to learn to accept that as this should not limit you to the opportunities you may encounter in your life.

After watching the TED talk of Mr. France Villarta, my main take away is that we need to be open and accepting of diverse groups just like how our ancestors were in the past. He mentioned how shamans cross-dressed and appeared to be effeminate and did the things that women usually do while women were considered powerful because they get the upper hand in marriages and divorces or the Babaylans, the healers of the community. This shows how the acts of our ancestors should be brought back because some Filipinos are close-minded about diverse groups and need to learn to be more accepting and open to change.

My main take away is that beliefs and ideologies can be influenced by the people around you to the point where your own beliefs change. In the TED talk, it was explained that Filipinos were influenced by the Spaniards and cause them to believe that gender is only a man and a woman. Today, we can also change that by influencing and educating other people to promote inclusivity for all genders.

After watching the TED talk of Mr. Francis Villarta, my main takeaway is that gender norms (the standards that men and women are expected to conform to) are simply social constructs that have been deeply ingrained into our society. The reinforcement of these norms have held people back from freely expressing themselves, so it's important that we all work together in order to create a more inclusive and accepting world, where everyone can feel safe.

After watching the TED talk of Mr. France Villarta, my main take away is that the Philippines isn't that accepting yet towards different gender norms and ideas. In the TED talk he gave, I also learned about the Babaylan, which are mostly women and feminized men. In our world today, we must learn to accept each other and be open-minded to the beliefs of other people and make them feel protected and not afraid to be themselves.

After watching the TED Talk of France Villarta, my main take away was that a social construct and society's view is so flexible and reconstructable. We, as a society, can choose to include or exclude certain people, beliefs, etc. One main example of this is the Philippines where our previous society and social construct accepted gender fluidity, gender diversity, and did not follow the traditional two sexes-two genders, but our current society after the Spanish Colonial Period changed into believing that there is only men and women who have certain roles. With this, I know now that we can rebuild this exclusive social construct into a more inclusive one and accept gender diversity and fluidity in our country. One step to this is accepting and being open to people who break the boundaries of gender roles and are still affected by social inequality. Accepting people like Leni, a transgender woman whose story was told in the TED Talk, would be a big improvement to our close-minded and exclusive society today.

After watching the TED talk of Mr. France Villarta, my main take away is that society’s norms can change and develop over time by the influence of others. In the present day of the Philippines, men and women are expected to live up to masculine and feminine roles respectively as this is what Filipinos adapted to, being under the Spanish rule and influence for over 300 years. However, Villarta pointed out how pre-colonial Philippines was different. Men and women did not have any expected standards to live up to and they acted and dressed the way they wanted to. I think this tells us that in the exclusive world today, we can change this mindset by bringing back this culture to society and normalizing gender fluidity.

After watching the TED Talk of Mr. France Villarta, my main take away is that social constructs can still be reconstructed. The social construct that a man has to be masculine and a woman has to be feminine has been ingrained in our society especially because of the colonizers we've had, but in the present, more and more people have come to realize that this is not the case - everyone is valid and they can be whatever they want to be. With this mindset, I have realized that the present and future can change the norms of the past.

After watching the TED talk of Mr. France Villarta, my main take away is that looking back, society has been critical when it comes to one’s gender/identity. Some tend to be close-minded and sensitive to new ideas about this due to the adaptation of the standards put up during the Spanish colonisation period. Although this idea has been lingering for the years, I learned that it is still possible to change this “norm” and become more inclusive to different genders and identities.

My main takeaway from the TED Talk of Sir France Villarta is that society has always been judgmental, especially when it comes to judging people on what they should and shouldn't do, and who they should and shouldn't be. Just because of their sex, but what this tells me is that society is changing especially with our times right now. Our generation is proof that society can change if you work hard enough for it. If a man wants to be masculine then good for him, but if he wants to be feminine, why should there be anything wrong with that? The status quo is whatever we make it to be, we have the power to determine what the social standards are.

My main takeaway from Sir France Villarta's TED talk is that society has always been critical of how one identifies as a person due to the conservative values instilled in us by our colonizers. The gender spectrum and society in general is ever-changing and it is our job to welcome these changes and respect those who society fails to recognize. As the new generation, it is essential for us to tackle and fight for those who are oppressed such as the LGBTQ community. Just because someone isn't cis, does not give you the right to judge them or dehumanize them. Their sexual preference should not be a factor towards the value of their humanity.

After watching the TED talk of Mr. France Villarta, my main take away is that society's indifference has always shown exclusivity towards people who don't follow the traditional identity of one's sexuality. As someone who can't relate to the people being judged for who they are, we as basic human beings have to accept them for who they choose to be because we don't know what they've gone through & our environment lacks so much diversity for no concrete reason. Our past does not define the present which is why we can choose to make a better change on educating ourselves and showing the compassion we have towards the lgbtq community to revive the empathy we've lost of humankind.

My main take away from the TED talk of Sr. France is that people are so used to the normal which is male and female that they have a difficult time accepting new types of sexuality. Many acknowledge that they have a preconception towards these sexualities. Society has shown prejudice to this community and has expressed their hatred and even disgust towards them because they cannot relate, so they look at them as if they are of a different species when they are still people who only want to go beyond their boundaries and express who they really are. People should not limit this community from wanting to change a part of themselves, instead, people should be open-minded towards them for their gender or sexual preference does not change the fact that they still people who have real emotions.
