I booked a carriage towards Pakistan on the eve of independence. The carriage dropped me to the Amritsar railway station and after getting seated in the train, I observed from my window that some Sikhs were running towards the train. They were shouting with rage and had weapons in their hands. Since I had heard the story of the train that had been attacked a few days back, I felt frightened and started evaluating my options of escape. Some of them started banging at the doors in order to open them. People inside the train were in state of total distraught and fear lurked on their faces. The train started moving and as it sped up, the Sikhs on the doors jumped off. I reached Lahore safely later that night and got registered in a refugee camp. The situation was uncertain but I found solace in the realization that I had made it to my new home called Pakistan. 

After a few minutes the screams stopped and I dared to look out of the hiding place. It was the most shocking experience as I saw bodies all around. Some were alive but most of the people were dead. All those who had survived got off the train and decided to walk in the direction the train was going. Finally we reached a small camp. This was safe for all of us. I thanked Allah that he had given me the chance to live and reach the land safely. Although, I was sad at the fact that my family was not with me. 

I was a part of that extremely scary partition. It was very hard to go to Pakistan. I travelled in a train with lots of people.  The Sikhs were trying to kill Muslims with their swords. It was a state of tyranny and distraught. We were scared for our lives but had high hopes that once the train would cross into the Pakistani territory we will be safe.
