ICT-coördinator is not an 'official' function but everyone expect us to be an expert in iT-solving problems. Furthermore the work is growing each year but we got the same amount of hours to do the job.

I agree with Roger when he says that very often ICT administrators wouldn't have received training since starting their role. In fact many of them have had no training at all and have ‘learnt on the job’. In Italy the recently introduced PNSD that is the Italian National Plan for Digital Education, a policy launched by the Ministry of Education, University and Research for setting up a comprehensive innovation strategy across Italy's school system and bringing it into the digital age and the 2016 National Plan for School Staff Training have improved the situation, however.

Hopefully right now I don’t share my time with classes and I can focus all my efforts in ICT coordination. Since I work in a school with more than 1000 students and around 140 teachers, it was quite difficult to divide the time between classes and ICT coordination. I work mostly in ICT strategy and pedagogical use of the tools and there is another person to maintain the infrastructure. Having said that I think that there are two main different work fields: one infrastructure development and maintenance and the other related with the ICT strategy and the pedagogical use. For the first one there are different qualification levels in the field of computing science but for the second I think is more complicated. One of the problems we have is the lack of acknowledgment ICT coordinators have, at least in my country, and that is not very motivating. I like the learning context where you can be creative and when you learn things that you can use in a short term in the school.

I dedicate my time in small part to the ICT administration. I think it would require a more in-depth technical training, but also a more specific pedagogical training. In school should be the staff dealing with the technical problems and staff using and know how to use the technologies for teaching. The formation of PNSD should train teachers in technical and pedagogical point of view. I like both formations and I think they are increasingly essentials for teachers.

As an ICT administrator I had and I have to face a lot of problems. I started having this role at school without having a real education, then I decided to study and take some certification and qualification. I am first of all a teacher, so I teach the most of my time but everyday I help colleagues to use devices and computers and I support them pedagogically to integrate technology in the classroom. I think it is important to know many things to be an ICT administrator and if this knowledge is supported by qualification and experience you can do a good job. I like training on new apps and sites created to help teaching and learning.

I strongly agree with conclusions and answers of the survey.
In my case I teach 15 hours a week, and I have 3 hours a week for my tasks as an ICT Administrator, and 2 hours a week for being the Training Teachers Responsible.
I really appreciate this course because it is the first time I attend a course specifically for my ICT task. I read articles, and we have meetings every three months with other ICT administrators of our city, but in our theorical functions we are just responsible for encouraging and help our colleagues to implement ICT in their lessons. So we don't receive training for managing with devices, networks, security or this type of issues in spite of the fact of that type of tasks are the main part of incidences we have to face daily. We have external technical support but the time of response is clearly insuficient and just to solve incidences but not related to planning, security or deployment.
I have excellent partners being ICT administrators from Greek subjects for example, but as you start being ICT admistrator, training should be provided by the Government (in my case, I teach in a Public High School).
I enjoy a lot training about security, networks and new tendences or services to solve old problems (as security in WIFI, access control, sensitive data and how to protect, sharing and storing data in a secure way, etc...)

Similarly to Gina Palumbo, my 1st task is to teach Math and Physics. Even if I am not only a Mathematician but also a Biostatistician an I have experience in data management and programming, ICT is different (one thing is to use a tool, another is to know it 'internally'!!) Unfortunately I do not feel too much confident in dealing with hardware. So, my first need regards hardware management and software related to infrastructure (not programming!) Helping colleagues/students in dealing with (almost) basic issues is not a problem. Live-Workshops would be very helpful. At my school, the network is administered by an external ICT that takes care of the main and big issues. There is also an ICT assistant who runs the periodical check (I have prepared) and resolves daily problems when I am busy with lessons

In Slovenia we have profile called IT operative ORGANIZER OF INFORMATION ACTIVITIES AT PRIMARY SCHOOL payed by the government. In 1997, when the job was established, we had only a few computers in the school. Today the situation is drastically different. The number of computers reach 100 and more we have also servers, interactive whiteboards, videoconferencing equipment and much more. Systemization of computer workers is still tiding to the number of classes, which directly effects on the percent of ICT worker. The problem is that the number of classes is in diminution that directly result the percentage of ICT workers. The situation is paradoxical, the percentage is reduced while the work and the needs drastically increases. Our school is very big so my systemization consist in 90% of ICT organizer and 10% classroom teacher. My work is to manage all ICT equipment (hardware and software), network, WiFi, school website, interactive classrooms, cloud, internet safety, education of the staff. A lot job to do.

I am just a teacher. I enrolled into this course to gain more knowledge. I consider that ICT administrators need to have qualifications and attend training regularly.
In our school ICT administrators come occasionally, because they are responsible for several schools in the city. I believe it is hard and almost impossible for them to check and fix everything in a school coming once in a week or once in 2 weeks with more that 10 labs with PCs. According to me, there should be one for every school because there are many tasks and issues to be taken into serious consideration.

The role of the ICT co-ordinator is too ad hoc.. no formal training, tech support is more or less taken for granted and the overall work involved as an ICT administrator is not taken seriously enough. In other words ministries would like to see a good job done but please do it on the cheap !!!

Two words: stressful and demanding
While I love and have a passion for things technology, I feel you need to be a very patient, understanding and organised teacher to be the ICT administrator as well!
In my school we have gone from zero interaction let alone ownership of devices among staff to them all BYOD to school for use in the classroom. They also have a school laptop and data projector in the classroom. Three years ago some staff didn't even have an email address and were reluctant to engage in our initiative to communicate all memos and info to them using email. Now three years on and things have really improved. We have introduced the idea of using a VLE
with students - at least to try.
I have given many CPD sessions on different aspects of ICT but our main concern currently is Security and Safety.
As a full time teacher my time is limited and often I don't feel I am giving enough or doing enough to help / inform / up-skill my colleagues.
I have an ICT noticeboard where I post CPD course info, news regarding recent security threats, best practice guidelines and how to add network printers to your device......
I love courses like this that I can do in the comfort of my own home and at my own pass.

As I said previously I’m not an ICT administrator.I am just a member of the so called team for innovation in my school. This is a group of teachers which is foreseen by the law and the so called piano nazionale scuola digitale for Italy. First of all I am a teacher . Beside that I'm also a teachers’ trainer for aspects related to the use of technologies in order to foster an innovative teaching and learning approach. I’m an eTwinning ambassador and since about 10 years I belong to the eTwinning community. Although I’m not an ICT Administrator I try to raise awareness among students teachers and parents about the huge potentiality connected with an innovating methodological approach enhanced through a responsible use of technologies. My aim by enrolling into this course was to gain more knowledge under all the technical and methodological aspects which I do not know jet. I think that not only an ICT administrator needs good qualifications, I think that in our school system there is a great need for a regular training also for teacher . Very often , in Italian schools , the problem is not the presence of technologies: the biggest challenge are people. The real challenge is a really innovating methodological approach in teaching and learning.
In our school we have an expert Technician who acts as ICT administrator for all the technical aspects and also an ICT administrator who is concerned with projects and the planning of teachers’ training for example. He acts with the help of a team of teachers who have had and are having also a special training which is foreseen by the ministry for education.The main activity of these teachers remain the teaching activity with all its obligations. The feeling of being sometimes overwhelmed is real because they are responsible for several classes. Sometimes it is difficult to keep all the things under control since we have a big school with more than 1600 students who are allowed to work according the BYOD system. Nevertheless I think the situation in our school is good in spite of the many difficulties and challenges we have to face, which are also related with the aspect of security and of a safe approach to the net which must be taken into serious consideration. There is really a lot a work to be done! I'm very curious and I have a really great expectation about next teach meet I'm eager to learn more about all these aspects related with a ICT administrating praxis

Being an ICT administrator is very hard. With small time and a lot of teachers to attend to, it's stressfull.
The biggest problem is to deal with all the request from teachers. They always want all system working at 120% of capacity. They have no ideas about the complexity of such systems, but they want results.
In addiction we do not have training to be an ICT administrator. Usually we do it because we love our job!

I´m not and ICT administrator but I have been. We are currently two people in charge of the school network, the ICT administrator and me.

We both studied computer science, but the subject of the networks has changed a lot in the last years, that is why training is necessary. We are not experts in networks, and sometimes it is necessary to be. That's why we have help from an external technician.

I am very concerned about safety issues, I need training on this subject.

I think an ICT administrator has to be updated with the latest trends in both network hardware and software.

It is true that it is often a problem of time rather than knowledge. Class hours must be combined with maintenance hours

Like many other teachers here, I am not the ICT administrator in my school. As a result, Question 5 in the survey above does not apply. I had to range items that are simply not my province! I do not decide about expenditure (I ranked it last, but of course it MAY be a problem) or take care of the machinery. BYOD has not been introduced (where do I put it?) and so on.
I am not sure I WANT to be the ICT administrator, but certainly I DO want to understand all the facets and implications of using ICT in schools and education, so that I can facilitate the finding of viable solutions to problems.

there are many good online training sites, e.g. pluralsight, which is great and of course others, that offer free trainings, e.g openhpi.
currently i enjoy security training most.
it's interesting that 37% do not have any training at all, but learn on the job.

Here in Italy, mainly in low-age school, there is no person to manage ICT, so one full time teacher has to do the job, as, even if you can get an external service, you need an internal reference, who is going to be a "first aid" and who is managing the problems and setting things together with the external technician. No qualification or formal courses, and, moreover, your (mostly unpaid) job is not recognized by colleagues...

To manage a lab, or a school, is required to have a qualification in this field to assign roles and responsibilities to protect the institution of unwanted attacks, securing and protecting databases of staff but also for the students.

Although I consider myself as a very active longlife learning teacher I don't have any formal certified training: I did Mooc's on the Canvas Network, Course. The Time Management is always a challenge for me. I work also as a teacher and have some time reserved for doing the ICT administration. The tasks come in at very various times and i have to organize my tasks and preparing the classes. I am a primary school teacher and also I are a full-time teacher.

I believe strongly in the innovation and therefore, right from the first elementary, my students use tools, starting from simple "targeted" games with LIM, then with the tablets and PCs and then they come in fifth with the right skills acquired during the entire route of the five years.

In my opinion, the use of technology can create additional value to teaching and are excellent strategies for pupils' learning.

I think that to be an ICT administrator is not always necessary qualifications because you might have a good formation and have excellent skills.

I have participated in many courses of training on ICT and I have good skills but they are not ICT administrator, and I have no training on network security systems topics.

Many of my colleagues in a position like mine (ICT administrator and teacher) have the feeling that they are "the boys/girls for everything digital or even electrical". I don't have any special education on being an ICT admin, but I have attended whenever I could, to some lessons, workshops etc. These are not enough, that's why I am here. I need S/W and H/W knowledge, but not theoretically. I need case of study, something close to reality. I share my time between teaching and solving problems but time is not enough. Surely a qualified person would do better, but there isn't because there are no funds. No need to mention that I do all these because I love it.

Collaborate in the ICT administration is just a part of my work: I have also to teach, to advise about ICT educational use... and I am also part of the directive team.
I think that having some kind of technological qualification is not just necessary... It's a must!! And the reality is that most of the times, the ICT administration is adopted by the "freaky teacher", the one "that like computers", and optional task, not recognized, not payed, and not rewarded with hours or even a certificate. :-(

I am ICT consultant in my school. I am also a teacher and I have been teaching for many years before I became a consultant. I have been searching for courses in ICT for many years and learned a lot but in this subject you have to learn every day because the subject changes so rapitly. Most of my time goes to advice/assist teachers and help them with the equipments. A lot of time also goes to update the school's website and the intranet. I would like to have more time to search for subjects that are available/suitable for teaching.

The type of training I would like to get more of is to help/plan/assist the teachers to use ICT in the work with students.

Teachers & admin staff ask for help a lot so I just have to find out by Googling, trial & error or asking on a forum for help. I would love to be able to fix & maintain routers and switches too. I think that ICT administrator is full time work and it needed high grade qualification and experience. In Italy this role isn't system role and it no have adequate recognition salary.

Hi, I'm a special educational teacher I'm also an english teacher and what i've learnt so far with ICT is driven mainly by my passion that i put at work for these disciplines. The main problem i think is somewhat related to time and to an appropriate training.

Currently I am principal at a high school laboratory center and also teaching. I am the ICT administrator and many times I have to participate to problem solving and repair actions when needed. Generally I feel that, as many of my CS colleagues in Greece, as an IT/CS teacher I am the boy for every job. This is an old feeling years before I become a principal

In my opinion is a qualification needed to be an ICT administrator,because you must have a good understanding of the programs, of the architecture to be able to do a good work and avoid loads and damage to the network and its users

Hi, I am an ICT teacher in two schools (in Slovak and Serbian language)and also I teach physics. Because my schools don't have ICT administrations, I also do these jobs ("boy for any job) although I don't have any special education on being an ICT admin. I learn by myself, attend courses whenever I can. It's not so easy, technology develops so fast . I would like to attend some practical courses for ICT administrators, but unfortunatelly, this role in primary schools in Serbia isn't system role

I am a primary school teacher, but I am not an ICT administrator. However, I don't think that a qualification is needed to be an ICT administrator as long as you prove your knowledge regarding this field and you are able to solve the encountered problems.

I have learnt on the job and by voluntarily doing day courses or a couple of line courses. I teach two subjects full time and do the eLearning and ICT "stuff" in my free classes and afternoons. We have a tech company for major installations and repairs but I troubleshoot first since a lot of the faults are very basic.

Jenny very well described the situation of profile ICT administrator in Slovenia. I must say, everything she wrote is absolutely true. Last year i was 55% in class teaching and 45% ICT organizer. This year I'm 30% computer and technic teacher and rest i'm ICT organizer. The computer, other accessories, work for ICT worker are increasing, while the percent of ICT worker is decreasing because of the number of classes.

Qualification is needed to be an ICT organizer in Slovenia. I'm now ICT organizer for four years and I needed to complete degree course in computer science and informatics. Although I completed this course, I still learn by myself, attend free courses live or online whenever I can.

I have taken on the role of ICT administrator in the last year so I feel I have a lot to learn. I voluntarily do as many courses as I can to upskill. I also have a full teaching timetable which I find very difficult to manage as the ICT role is getting busier all the time. I am hoping for a free period or two in my timetable for next year to address this. We do pay someone to come and fix the very technical issues which is a great support.

In my work, sometimes i have to interrupt classes or other work I am doing to solve more urgent situations, the difficulty I have has to do with the definition of priorities or urgencies to solve.
The training that I need most to receive has to do with new hardware or software that we sometimes have to change and to operate in short periods of time, or training in order to automate processes for example in creating users or adding equipment To the domain.

I am not the ICT administrator in my school, but I will answer the questions as if I were. Firstly, there are no set scheduled tasks that the ICT should perform. This person is also a teacher and I guess teaching is a priority. There should definitely be a need qualification to become an ICT. At least a training to clear out ideas and make the ICT an efficient agent who can repair, program, install and teach the faculty how to proceed.

I believe having a degree in computer science is not the most important thing. Knowledge of the field is the most important and the knowledge can be acquired through various courses and by doing research. Personally, I enjoy practical training the most, because it forms skills that can be applied in real situations.

I have been a Tic administrator for 10 courses and the Abalar Project since 2011, This course collaborated with the administrator tic and I am the coordinator of the Abalar Project (5th / 6th grade). The distribution of the tasks, is to advise the faculty, solve technical problems and upload to the website the resources that are proposed. For this I have in the schedule a session of 50 minutes (session that of course does not arrive to develop all the work)
