Nelson grew up listening to the elders speak and worked out that he wanted to help contribute to the freedom of his people in their struggle. That changed his worldview and that is the way it stayed forever. Nelson never joined big groups until he helped Make the ANC youth group in 1994. he kept moving up the ranks through his work and helpfulness towards the community. In 1952, Nelson and one other person were chosen to fight against 6 unreasonable laws. On the 8th of April 1960, the ANC was shut down and banned due to a protest where police killed 69 people. On the 11th of January, Nelson left the country on a fake name to go tell people about his ideas. In August 1962, he was found trying to leave the country for a second time and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment. But in July 1963, he was involved in another case of sabotage where he almost received the death penalty before the case was thrown out for insufficient evidence. It wasn't until December 1964 where they presented a new case about Nelson with 173 new witnesses and thousands of documents. Nelson was found guilty on all four counts and sentenced to life in prison instead of death. In 1990, Mandela was released from prison and became president on the ANC. On May the 10th he was elected president of South Africa. He stepped down in 1999.

How has their work encouraged a more open-minded view on situations rather than a close-minded and controlled view?

Nelson Mandela’s work has made a more encouraged open-minded view on situations now from when he first started changing the world. An example of this is when he was in the ANC, he encouraged them to have more open minded views on policy's like the Programme of Action. Today people are now using his radical ideas to change the world everyday. Such as standing up for what you believe is right and if they take you down to get back up. If it doesn't get across the first time, keep doing it until you get your message across and achieved what you wanted. This was a radical idea because he did not stop after the first time when he got charged he just kept going.

The thing i have found most inspiring is the fact that he never gave up, even when facing the death penalty he still believed that he would get through. When he was given the life sentence, he kept going and always did for the 28 he was in there till he got out. The persistence he had kept him going through all the struggles life threw at him and he became the first South African President.

He had the stress of going for president and when he was in the ANC not getting caught. He had to learn to cope with all the stress and he was always happy and took everything that happened and made the best of a bad situation.
