The novel is a parallel universe where black people/ the crosses are more popular and over see the noughts/ white people. The author wants to talk about this topic because at her time there were people treating black people differently and she wanted to tell the world how they were treated and what they went through. In the novel the reader should experience lots of hatred and difficulties in a relationship. There are two main protagonists : one called Callum who is a nought and the other is a cross named Sephy. Sephy and Callum were best of friends sine kindergarten, in their relationship they both didn’t see the hatred of their skin colours change their it. However, when callumn joins sephy’s school he was teased and attached by the crosses. Callum didn’t want sephy to been seen with him, because he feared that she will be seen in a bad way as well. Later on in the novel callum  is accused of being a part of a deadly group with uses violence to revolt against the crosses. This puts him and his dad in jail BY sephy’s parents. Towards the end of the novel sephy is sent to a boarding school and she hopes that callum comes and takes her to live with him, because they both were in love. Callum had kidnapped her and had made her pregnant, callum was arrested by the police and was given a death sentence for kidnap.
