Pick one kind of communication and explain how it could be used in a daycare setting and why it is important to understand and know how to use.

Poster is a way to communicate with children. For example How to wash hands, and poster for how to put the books away. Posters of the colours are also important for children that are in English and in Inuktitut, so that children knows which colour it is.

Letters is important because it is important to the parents to have them up to date on how their children is doing while they are not watching like for example if the child has been misbehaving it’s important to let the parents know in a letter and in full information so the parents wouldn’t overthink about the child with the behaviour, they would be able to talk to their child to behave again. Sometimes children need one on one talk with their parents instead of with an ECE educator. Writing a letter can also be for good reasons, if the child is doing good in classroom and helping other students or if the child is engaging well. Letters are very useful in daycare setting for so many reasons, it can also be an invitation if the daycare is having a feast for holidays.

Texting is so easy and fast! It is a way to send short messages quickly to a parent or other staff member. BUT when we send texts, we need to make sure they are specific, have the exact information needed and are spelled right too!

Sending an email to the parents is important, if a parent and a Early Childhood Educator need a talk about the child’s behaviour. Or if we need to notify that there will be an events happening and it’s important to let the parents know. For example, there will be an Christmas concert for children , and we would need to notify the parents before 2 weeks or early just so they can be prepared for the Christmas concert.

Posters are important to show, this is how you should do. Like put away toys when done/ tidy up. Showing how to wash hand when entering after playing outside/or when coming in. Being quiet when doing work. Being nice to each other. Sharing with toys.

Sending emails is important to parents/guardians about the good and the “bad” things happening for the child, whether the child is not listening or improving. Emails could also be used to send messages about events happening at daycare.

Texting the parents about the children if they have fever starting or has had accident during the day, if the child is coming in the morning or afternoon, talking about the child did a great job on behaviour in class.

Emailing the parents about the child on events for party’s/little concerts/ costumes wearing. Some emails would be on behaviour of the child they have done in class and ask the parents to talk with them to improve the behaviour.

Letters could be for parents that the child will be doing a project and they can wear something in certain colour, or on this day there will be no daycare for children, as the staff would be clearing the place or have a staff meeting and will continue the next day.

Sending out letters to family is a way to show that what events are going to happen in the daycare facility, on what time, the date and on where the event will take place.

Not all parents have access to a phone or social media but a written letter would help to tell them.

Emailing the parents or guardians is to tell how the child is regarding the behaviour, well being and other personal matters.

Not all parents would want to speak in front of other parents about a child of theirs as some might be too personal to be talked about or discussed in person,

Emails are important because it can reach out to the children’s parents or guardians to let them know what’s going on with their child at the daycare. For example the child has been happy or sad at the daycare and the teachers or ECE team email to parents to come over to talk or explain what’s been going on with the child. Or when the teachers has a party for the Christmas event with the children we can invite the parents to the party and for the dinner at the daycare.
