         <title>Russia, Germany and France join the war - July 28 - August 3, 1914 </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>On August 1, 1914 Gemany declared war on Russia and on August 3 of the same year they declare war on France, entering them into the war on the side of Austria-Hungary, the tripple alliance which ended up consisting of Austria-Hungary, Germany, Bulgaria and Turkey. Germany's plan was to take out France before Russia could finish mobilizing and then put all their effort into the eastern front. This plan is very similair to the plan Hitler used in World War 2 but the Nazi plan ended up being more succesful on both fronts.&nbsp;<br><br>The French border was protected very well meaning it would be difficult for the Germans to invade. Germany, to avoid the French deffence went around it through Belgium and Luxembourg. The invasion of Belgium brought the UK into the war as they were a close ally of the Belgians</div>]]></description>

The battle of Marne was extremely brutal for the French due to their use of outdated rushing tactics, France and Germany both lost over 30,000 men and Britain who played a smaller role in the battle lost around 1,700 men.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>First battle of Gallipolli - April 25, 1915 </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Allied forces landed in Gallipolli, Ottoman Empire on April 25, 1915. The battle of Gallipolli was the first major battle fought on Ottoman soil, over 55,000 soldiers died in the battle more than half of which were Ottoman. The battle was mainly fought between Britain and The Ottoman armies but Britian also had support from Kiwi, French and Australian troops. The battle ultimately ended in an Ottoman victory despit the higher casualties with the Allied forces eventually retreating after 8 months of fighting. </div>]]></description>

         <title>128 Americans killed in the sinking of the Lusitania - May 7, 1915</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Lusitania was sunk by a German U-Boat on its way from New York to Liverpool. The Lusitania was carrying many American internationals with 128 of them dying. The sinking of the Lusitania further turned the American public opinion away from Germany. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Battle of Verdun - February 21, 1916 </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The battle of Verdun was fought by France and Germany with each of them losing over 140,000 men in the fighting at Verdun alone. The battle was fought for 9 months until December of 1916. The battle of Verdun was fought using trench warfare tactics on the western front it was a very important battle in the story of World War One as it was so deadly and because it was a valuable French victory as they succesfully defended their artillery systems, which had been attacked starting the battle. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The battle of Jutland was the biggest and one of the only naval battles in the European theater during World War One as Japan had been taking German colonies in the pacific through naval and air assault. The battle was the first time that the Germans and the British fought eachother using dreadnoughts a new class of armored ships which were extremely expensive and labour intesive to make so when each side lost multiple they decide to not have another naval altercation so large scale through out the war. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The US declared war on Germany in April of 1917 after severing diplomatic ties in February, 1917. The leaders of the US had been debating on if they should enter the war or stay out of it with conservatives in the US being pro war and the acting president being against joining the war. Eventually the Germans sent a plan to Mexico to invade the US from the south but the UK intercepted it and sent it to the USA this forced Americas hand and they joined in the war. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Russia sign the treaty of Brest-Litovsk with Germany - March 3, 1918</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>After the Bolshevik revolution the new Soviet government pulled Russia out of the war in response to public opinion. But if Russia were to stop fighting Germany wanted them to agree to the treaty of Brest-Litovsk which awarded the Germans with massive amounts of Western Russian land. For Russia to truely leave the war they needed to sign the treaty so they agreed and they lost the land that now makes up partial amounts or all of Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. </div>]]></description>

This was not the only armistice signed by the tripple alliance during WW1 with all the former tripple alliance countries other than Germany signing armistices prior to the signing of the Compiegne armistice. </div>]]></description>
