I had seen this short film when it first came out, so when I saw that it had a picture book version now, I instantly read it. What a wonderful story! I'm tempted to buy this for my libraries picture book collection even though, it's a small collection (I'm a middle school librarian).

I especially love that it's not just a story about a person of color and their hair experience (Which my middle schoolers have assured me over the years is a big deal), but it's also about a little girl's connection with her father. A wonderful read!

While this is an elementary-level book, it would definitely be an easy book to use for discussing the plot of a story (Exposition, Rising Action, etc.). This would give students an easy example to plot out while also allowing the teacher the opportunity to discuss with students the plot twist at the end!

Kamala Harris has reached out to that small part of all of us who is looking for that superhero to come save us. In such a tumultuous time, it's a lovely reminder that we DO have superheroes - We are surrounded by them.

I loved reading about her walk through life and the superheroes she met along the way.

I love his other books from this series and this one is just as wonderful. It gives nine steps to be actively anti-racist.

This is a great book for parents to read with their kiddos!

I've been meaning to read this book for YEARS and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to make the time to do so!

I love that Chelsea took a phrase so often associated with her mother and turned it into a series of short biographies about women from all backgrounds who have faced their own barriers throughout history and how they have knocked them down. A story of female empowerment that everyone should read.

I also love that the illustrator chose to leave the background of each page white and really highlight the individual children. It's a great way of visually affirming the message of the book.

I will be purchasing this story for my library not only because I know a lot of my students will connect with it but also because I think ALL children should read this book.
