I especially love that it's not just a story about a person of color and their hair experience (Which my middle schoolers have assured me over the years is a big deal), but it's also about a little girl's connection with her father. A wonderful read!

I loved reading about her walk through life and the superheroes she met along the way.

This is a great book for parents to read with their kiddos!

I love that Chelsea took a phrase so often associated with her mother and turned it into a series of short biographies about women from all backgrounds who have faced their own barriers throughout history and how they have knocked them down. A story of female empowerment that everyone should read.

I loved seeing the diversity in this book! I also love that the illustrator chose to leave the background of each page white and really highlight the individual children. It's a great way of visually affirming the message of the book.

She tells the story of leaving her home in Mexico and her experience in a US elementary school and the hardships ad racism she faced, all while trying to learn a new language and find herself in her new home. I will be purchasing this story for my library not only because I know a lot of my students will connect with it but also because I think ALL children should read this book.
