This drawing is a world war one airplane. When the war first began, aircraft played a small role in warfare, but, by the end of the war, the air force has become an important branch of the armed forces. The first use of airplanes in World War I was for reconnaissance. As the war progressed, both sides began to use aircraft to drop bombs on strategic enemy locations. An interesting fact about these warplanes is The first aircraft carriers were constructed during World War I. The first time a carrier-based aircraft attacked a land target was in July of 1918 near the end of the war. Because of these aircrafts, there were more casualties than previous wars from the bombing the aircrafts sent, and enemy pilots began to fight each other in the air.

The flamethrower, which brought terror to French and British soldiers when used by the German army in the early phases of the First World War in 1914 and 1915, the basic idea of a flamethrower is to spread fire by launching burning fuel. Having tested the Flammenwerfer in 1900 the German army deployed it for use in three specialist battalions from 1911 onwards. The first notable use of the Flammenwerfer came in a surprise attack launched by the Germans upon the British at Hooge in Flanders Springing forward July 30, 1915.The effect of the dangerous nature of the surprise attack proved terrifying to the British opposition.

They were undeniably useful when used at short-range, but were of limited wider effectiveness, especially once the British and French had overcome their initial alarm at their use.Quite aside from the worries of handling the device - it was entirely feasible that the cylinder carrying the fuel might unexpectedly explode. The British, intrigued by the possibilities offered by flamethrowers, experimented with their own models. built directly into a forward trench constructed in No Man's Land a mere 60 yards from the German line. By the close of the war flamethrower use had been extended to use on tanks, a policy carried forward to World War Two. Flame-throwing equipment, albeit somewhat refined, continues in use to the present day.

Mustard gas would also sink into the trenches and the soldiers would have to evacuate or they would die from the gas, which would force them to go onto No Mans Land where they would be shot and killed. Mustard gas caused about 90,000 deaths in WW1.

The flamethrower was a helpful invention towards the start, getting its job done. Although Germany didn't invent the first flamethrower, this specific type was the first of its kind. Germany ended up launching a surprise attack with these "fire guns." Because of how dangerous it was, it meant that the opponents were constantly falling back to prepare troops to fill in as back up. This weapon was almost a delicacy, seeing as there wasn't enough fuel to mass produce large amounts of this expensive item. Unfortunately, this item did not have a very large range and was also dangerous to the person operating it. All in all, this item had a large impact on WW1.

Technology has greatly improved over time and now they have sensors and other things to help prevent submarine attacks. During world war 1, submarine attacks were so deadly that unrestricted submarine attacks were seen as a war crime. During the war, u-boats killed more than 15,000 allied sailors.
