By 1612, however, the shogun banned Christianity and focused on riding his country of all Christians. It was gone for a good two decades until a uprising in southern Japan of some 30,000 peasants, led by samurai, shook the Tokugawa shogunate. The shogun decided that Christianity was at the root of the rebellion. There then was an exclusion policy that came out after.
