Uses
Color can aid organization to develop a color strategy and stay consistent with those colors.[3]
It can give emphasis to create a hierarchy to the piece of art.
It is also important to note that color choices in design change meaning within cultural contexts. For example, white is associated with purity in some cultures while it is associated with death in others.


Attributes 
Vaslues, tints and shades of colors that are created by adding black to a color for a shade and white for a tint. Creating a tint or shade of color reduces the saturation.[3]
Saturation gives a color brightness or dullness, and by doing this it makes the color more vibrant than before.

GRADATION

Gradation applies to the incremental change in the state of a design element.

Linear Perspective

A grading of size and direction produce linear perspective. The illusion of reduced scale as distance increases is a product of gradation in size and direction.

Aerial Perspective

Gradation of color and tone, from warm to cool and dark, to light produce aerial perspective. As tone becomes lighter and colors become cooler, apparent distance increases.

Form Through Gradation

Grading tone is our most powerful tool for creating the illusion of solid form.
For centuries artists, wishing to interpret nature, have perfected techniques for grading tone, creating seamless transitions from dark to light in order to produce the illusion of solid form.

Variety is the complement to unity and is needed to create visual interest. Without unity, an image is chaotic and "unreadable;" without variety it is dull and uninteresting. Good design is achieved through the balance of unity and variety; the elements need to be alike enough so we perceive them as belonging together and different enough to be interesting.

Varying the elements creates variety. Ways to vary elements include : Line - thinness, thickness, value, color, angle, length shape - size, color, orientation and texture, type color - hue, value, saturation value - darkness, lightness, high-key, low-key, value contrast texture - rough, smooth

An effective way to integrate unity and variety is by creating variations on a theme. People tend to pay more attention to faces than to other objects.Faces are loaded with information.By looking at faces,we can gather information about the person's identity,emotional condition,direction of eye gaze,facial movements and head gestures.Facial code is universal to all people in all cultures.The facial code refers to the emotional messages that are expressed by the movements of the facial muscles around the eyes,mouth and sometimes the nose.Thus,we decode emotional signals by perceiving the position or slant of a person eyebrows,the shape of the eyes and mouth,and the wrinkles around facial features.

A line is the result of a dot or point moving in space or over a surface. Line has only one 
dimension and its most important property is direction.

A line is one of the most important tools that an artist has to use and one of the most 
important elements to study when looking at a piece of art. Lines organize an artwork the 
way the backbone organizes the body. The direction of the lines pulls our eyes up a tree 
or jiggles along a picket fence. Arts use line to move the eye through and along the work. 
In almost every picture there is a dominant line that hold interest and stabilizes the 
composition. Repetition of line can give a work unity. Variation in line can make it 
interesting.

Lines have character and personality and can communicate emotion.

       * Horizontal lines are calm, quiet, restful
       * Vertical lines are bold, strong, stable
       * Thin lines can be delicate, timid, weak
       * Diagonal lines show action, falling, leaning,
          growing
